Retrograde Movement

The retrograde movement is similar to the feigned retreat in that whenever the stress of an enemy attack gets to high, or even before the enemy attacks, you retreat. This way you can lure the enemy into a pincer movement, or an envelopment However, it may also simply be that you do not have enough troops to man a line forcing you to retreat as much as possible. The psychological effect on the enemy may be greater then you think. Enemies may suddenly become very careful if they do not see a direct cause for your retreat. Boobytraps, Mines and sentryguns may await him in deserted positions. Therefore this defense will usually buy you time, if you plan the retreat carefully.

For more information on this defensive form, also see the Feigned retreat in the Tactical Movements on Offence Section.
