      I haven't verified this, but in ProQuake 4.39 I modified all the string copy and concatenation to avoid the classic string buffer overrun problems that can occur in C.

      To my knowledge, that shouldn't be a problem with centerprint (although I haven't checked) because if I recall those are dynamic strings (allocated to size, not fixed length allocated). So obviously I need to check to see why that is getting cut-off.

      This was a great bug report.

        • Put in quake\id1\music folder. Type "mp3 play whatever.mp3" to play it.

          • Ahh thanks! I had the first step down "music folder" I thought the MP3's automatically played since there's a music option in the options menu

            • I really love ProQuake, thanks for the hard work put in. Great stuff in widescreen 1080p with the field of view up.

              A couple random questions, one is for playing single-player does it matter if viewblends is on deathmatch setting? And what exactly does that setting do? I've googled it, don't quite get it none the less.

              Also, for some reason the game looks better to me with the framerate set to that 72 fps limit. Maybe because the game is old. Is that weird, folks?

              • From what I've seen; with veiwblends on deathmatch when you go under water the screen doesn't get the water 'film' coloring over it, also it stops the water warp effect.

                  If your monitor's refresh rate is at 75hz at the native resolution you are going to get less screen tearing at 72-75fps. Same with vsync on.

                  • Just finished the single player with ProQuake, had an error in the last level. When you jump into the slipgate to telefrag the boss, I got

                    "MOVETYPE_PUSH with a non bsp model" and the game crashed.

                    Tried it a bunch of times, messed with settings, etc, still crashed, and a few times it worked but dropped me into the lava. It did eventually work correctly one time though.

                      I was able to reproduce this issue. Occurs if you go through the teleporter and don't manage to telefrag the Shub.

                      So ProQuake issues to fix:

                      1. Truncated X-Men center print when Magneto talks.
                      2. Find out which version this end.bsp cropped up and identify the change that caused it
                      3. WinQuake version doesn't save video mode for restart.
                      4. Use JoeQuake bbox fixes to resolve the hipnotic map key dropped out of level issue

                        I've tried the mod in several engines. All of them truncate the message at 255 characters. FitzQuake, older modern ProQuake before I did any string safety stuff, JoeQuake, DarkPlaces, Enhanced GLQuake.

                        I am thinking this is a protocol or QuakeC limitation, not an engine bug.

                        Update: A centerprint message in Quake cannot exceed 255 characters no matter what. This is NOT a bug but a Quake limitation.

                        Bug status: Resolved; proper behavior of Quake.

                              • Warpspasm [2007] is an absolutely must play single player release. Probably unique in that sense. As highly as Nehahra, Travail, Zerstorer, Soul of Evil, ARWOP are regarded, Warpspasm in my opinion gives you the feel of an unclean story somehow and ijed's sense of music really goes with it.

                                Ijed, of course, along with goldenboy and others are doing the Quake Remake project.
