What version # did you last get a stable 250 fps and what version # did the FPS not maintain that?

If you can tell me, I can fix. I obviously want everyone to get the highest possible FPS and as can easily be seen, I am wanting ProQuake to be the most flexible and refined engine it can possibly be.

Once I get where I feel the next major release should be, I'm going to stop and ask the community for any issues, bugs, etc. to make sure the next major version is iron-tight and rock solid.

If I recall correctly, it should be really easy to increase maxplayers for listen servers.

Got less done than I had hoped, but killed some rare bugs that bothered me.

        Download: ProQuake 4.51 - 1.7 MB (Source)

Experimental wqpro_api build included, uses MH's vid_win.c to avoid the Scitech MGL library. Mostly works until it crashes presumably because I need to do some bounds checking for pixel rendering. Otherwise quite nice but needs more video modes.

        New features in 4.51:

        1. gl_xflip ... Gunter wanted this
        2. Finally added a bbox fix to ProQuake
        3. Maxplayers can be set to 16 at any time. No longer needs command line params.

Note: I bumped up verts to load the Moo Q1MDL that d1554573r made, but forgot to revert. Will be reduced back to prior maxes in next version.

The rest are boring bug fixes and quality control stuffs.

Maxplayers can be increased at any time
        developer 2 displays world position x,y,z on-screen
gl_xflip - Ability to play maps rendered in reverse.
Player color range in menu increased to 15.
Resolved issue causing Half-Life maps to crash when dedicated server was running.
Resolved issue that could cause white textures when switching to windowed mode.
Added several new model and map load warnings from Enhanced GLQuake.

Looked through code several times, can't figure out why player is interpolated with r_interpolate_animation 1. I'll figure it out. Weird.

I tested version 4.51 and it's really smooth! The r_interpolate_animation is supposed to interpolate players, and its a very overdue feature
I'll admit I haven't play tested PQ in a while; the colors look crisp (contrast 2, gamma 0.8 ) mouse feels nice, autodownload works like a champ (tested on CTF server), in all I can see myself using this more often, now.

Weird. I haven't had a virus on this machine ever in 8 years and don't ever install anything non-Quake on it except for developer stuffs -- I have another machine that I use for general use purposes.

              Thanks for the heads up.

Maybe some Quake something or rather I've installed in recent history had a virus.

              Addressing this issue ...

(Just to be sure ... I've temporarily removed all the recent ProQuake updates from the archives until I can check this out ... pending ...)

I have a virus scan running on my hard drive. I have like 3 million files.

I'm rather certain that none of the ProQuake executables are affected by what R00k reported ... but until that virus scan finishes I can't confirm that.

Until the virus scan completes, all ProQuake downloads are offline as a precaution. It's been 21 hours since I started the virus scan ... factor in sleep time and maybe in 14 hours or so the downloads will be available again.

I have no interest in spreading viruses and even though there isn't an sign that any of the ProQuake executables were affected I've taken all recent update offline until I know this for a fact.

I'm rather sure none of the ProQuake executables could have been affected, but I'm unwilling to take that chance until I see the results of the virus scan that has been running for nearly a day now ...

I wanted to send you a private message on the matter, though, I didnt want some unsuspecting user to download the source .rar. The binary file passed with flying colors, as Micro$oft Security Essentials scans after you download. (its a free antivirus program, that's a LOT less hassle than AVG, Mcgafee, etc.). proQuake v4.50 is virus free as well. It may have have crawled on your system through a backup or recent download. Or Kimp hacked your FTP

Baker is trying to kill quake forever! Hang the heretic!

What a smooth plan it was too, act all "Hello, I'm Baker, aka Mr. Make Quake Live Forever".

Now this diabolical scheme to infect everyone with a virus. Clever. But Rook, the real hero, caught you red-handed and thwarted your long-awaited attempt to destroy quake. My question to you sir, is simple. Why? Why something so near and dear to our hearts. Too many PM's a day about some stupid bug here or there and you went all michael douglas in "Falling Down" on us?

Wolf in sheeps' clothing. Greatest trick the Devil played was convincing the world he didn't exist.

You, and your little proquake thing-a-ma-jig, whatever the fuck that is, is officially out of my world of concerns. Good riddance.

Btw, when will the latest updates be back-up for download, i haven't tried past 4.36 and I'm anxious.

                        Haha. I love it.

Right now, the hang up is that I'm anal retentive when it comes to stuff like this and I have a virus scan running against, sadly, an ungodly number of files.

There isn't any evidence any of the ProQuake binaries have a virus, but until I finish my little "investigation" I don't want to have the downloads up.

Ironically, I've just deleted 13 GB of engine source codes because stupid virus scan is scanning text files like all my source code files (sheesh! text files cannot have a virus --- duh) and there is no way to make the damn virus scanner skip those.

I don't need any of those source codes, it isn't like I've committed a crime, but I kept ever since ProQuake revision I've made (or discarded on occasion) and ended up with a super-crapton of files. All the important ones were releases, anyway.

So I'm doing some "house cleaning" and deleting old crap I truly don't need any more so I can re-run the virus scan without it taking a freaking week.

Yeah, I'm being overly cautious about this, but sorting thru all my engine code crap is going to make updates go faster in the future anyways so this is a plus.

ANY file can contain an exploit so a thorough malware scan should scan them all (so it can at least pretend to be omniscient and useful). Textfiles cannot contain something that runs by itself though.

Make sure you check out Encyclopedia entry: Virus:Win32/Sality.R - Learn more about malware - Microsoft Malware Protection Center

I highly suggest you look into some CVS so you can keep your source code much more organised and smaller.

Conspiracy theories like this create unnecessary stress on the situation. Save your garbage for the trash-man, please. I could easily have a latent virus buried in a past version of Qrack, as I never had real-time anti-virus protection enabled until I recently upgraded to windows 7. There's a nice little "use at your own risk", disclaimer attached to the readme.txt file though. I still think Kimp could have had the ability to be behind this somehow. I never downloaded his modified version of PQ.

As it turns out, that single cl.exe in the 4.51 source was the sole infected file in any of the source uploads. The virus came from running some old Quake executable that had been downloaded years ago (I don't recall the name of it or where I got it from).

Future ProQuake uploads containing executables will be virus scanned immediately prior to upload.

Some people might think I was making a bigger deal over this than I should have and being way overly cautious, but I certainly don't want any version of ProQuake to ever contain a virus and the very thought was disturbing.

So ... I'll be restoring the ProQuake downloads soon.

                                Download: ProQuake 4.52 - 1.5 MB (Source)

                                Changes:

Mostly, just added support in glpro/dx8pro/d3dpro for any skybox size. Like 256 or 1024, instead of just 512. Borrowed from aguirRe's Enhanced GLQuake

Now can run maps like back2forwards ( back2forwards.zip - Forwards Compatible by LTH ) without issue:

Also should have no issue with, say, the Quake Remake Single Player Demo from 2009 which had a 256x256 skybox.

(And virus scanning is now part of the established upload procedure for all ProQuake binary and source files. And that was done with this build.)
