  • Battle of the GPU's !! DirectQ!!

It's battle of the GPU's!!! Green vs Red !!
Benchmark , attain hightest possible FRAMES PER SECOND , using the client
    DirectQ 1.8.666a , located here

All participants should use the same version, to keep consistancy between benchmarking

    host_maxfps is the command,

Post screenshot's/rig details!! Let your geek out, TIMEDEMO DEMO2 is where its at!!

Later on,can hold show downs and showcases for other clients!! Maybe performance differs from client to client.

Its Team Red vs Team Green, on our turf, on our bountiful list of q1 clients!!

        He said GTX275.

        Here's mine: settings and results.

        Athlon II x2 240 @ 3.5GHz
        2x2GB + 2x512MB DDR2 @ 1000MHz 5-5-5-15
        GTX260 @ 640 core, 1405 shader, 2300 mem

I think we're limited by DirectQ. I can set host_maxfps 10000 and I will be locked at 500FPS. We should use an engine without a FPS lock.

I normally play with vysnc ON, but I disabled it to not be locked 60 FPS for the test.

Yeah im not downloading directq.... plus you didnt mention what resolution and settings to use. Im sure i could get a higher fPS running at 640X480 rather than my normal 1920X1280 and turning all graphics down, but you didnt state in the rules.

          I have ProQuake
          Qrack
          DP
          Engine X

Ill use one of those to benchmark if you want.

Yeah, DirectQ has an FPS lock of 500 on account of the timer it uses (needed to avoid crazy waltzing time problems on modern CPUs - Quake's default timer behaves like a drunk on the deck of a ship in high seas on my 8-core 64-bit Win7 machine, for example). The best possible precision that the timer can get is 1 millisecond, and at over 500 FPS rounding errors will cause problems (numbers over 500 don't divide into 1000 evenly nor with an acceptable error margin).

There's more detail about this somewhere on my blog.

It is valid as a benchmark of a modern GPU as it uses modern rendering techniques like shaders and vertex buffers, but you'll need to hit it with something more stressful than an ID1 timedemo. Try running ne_tower and looking up from the very bottom of the tower, for example - that's quite a brutal test that should give more useful info.

Given some more blatant instructions ; map download location / just stand at the bottom looking up? no timerefresh??

http://www.quaddicted.com/reviews/ne_tower.html <- Map, provided in pak format.

http://quakestuff.telefragged.com/ <- Used PakXplorer to rip out ne_tower.bsp and placed into Id1\maps\

                            That didnt work...
