It's actually developed on Windows 7 64 bit so I'm guessing you need a D3D update: mhquake: The FIRST thing you should do if DirectQ crashes

After screwing with some settings I got the 4850 to 960fps

Well, I installed the 4870 today. It was craashing at the desktop and I assumed it was my 250w psu. I tried powering the card with a seperate power supply and it did exactly the same thing I tried newer drivers and that fixed the problem(running fine with a 250w psu )

Anyways, yea, I actually get less fps now with the 4870 and the latest catalyst drivers. Darkplaces is running a little faster and Starcraft 2 seemed to run lttle smoother though. So I dont know. Its nice running Directq though because its so true to the original Glquake.

that sad face means the 250w PSU is cutting it close. When I upgraded entire gaming rig, I had to upgrade psu's as well. I went with RAIDMAX.

Although, I would definately consider Xfiring those two video cards, and a PSU upgrade. Xfire scales like a champ!

I personally prefer modular PSUs with a single +12v rail that don't have LEDs. I also don't think too highly of RAIDMAX... Brands like Antec (as long as you don't get a Smartpower series PSU), Seasonic, Corsair, and Silverstone will treat you right... but unfortunately, you get what you pay for, so you'll end up paying more for those quality PSUs.

I have a because I ordered a 500w psu because everywhere I read, said that it had to be 500w or more. Then when I initially tried the 4870 it had tiling on the screen when windows started. I assumed it was a power problem, but it turned out it was a driver problem. It just seems a little funny that a 500w psu is recommended by everyone, including ATI. But when it comes down to it a psu with half the advertised wattage works fine(not sure for how long though)

Update: I got my hands on a ATI 5870 (4870 is now on Ebay) for a really good price. It seems my processor was the bottleneck. I got identical fps with the 5870 as I did with the 4870. It seems some slowdowns with grenade explosions on DP have been fixed though. I have a fx-60(2.6ghz dual core vs 2.2ghz 64 x2) on the way. It will be only a 400mhz difference for a single core, but hopefully it will put me up over 1000fps(I was getting about 975fps before). Ill update numbers soon.

If im not happy with the outcome, Im going to go ahead and upgrade the mobo and and processor. Victim of ADD I think. hehe

I hit about 970fps with both the 4870 and the 5870. Even with Dark Places full AF and AA is only a difference of 1 fps full on or full off. So that made me think it was the cpu. I should be able to update #s soon.

If im not happy with it Ill just upgrade mobo and cpu. I should be able to sell this AMD 64 x2 4400+ and the FX-60 for enough to get a good mobo and processor and still have something left over.
