      i just did them cuz i was bored and didnt really have any inspiration at all...

      .

      you're right, it is time for me to step it up and try something harder to improve my skills instead of re-doing some models which look fine,
      and perhaps even do something not related to quake.

      i think i might step up and actually try working on something much bigger which has been my dream since i started modelling....
      making a fancy hi-poly nightgaunt! <3

      people have been told me numerous times they think id be good enough for it, but i wasnt confident enough to actually try it, afraid i would fail.
      and surely, if you dun even try you cant fail... but it wont get you anywhere either.

      ill be looking up pictures for references soon of creatures like it with similar claws and similar body-types and such,
      so ill have some references and can get some ideas exactly how ill want to make this creature look

      one of my fave pictures of this creature is always still this particular one


      i think the nightgaunt might make for a perfect creature to start with,
      since its basically just a skinny humanoid figure without a face and with claw-like feet
      .

        psssh, I know.

        For real though, I saw this coming a couple of power-ups ago. I'm not really all that different from you. My modelling skills may be just a few hairs better than yours. That being said I can reflect back to a time when I was in a comparable situation to yours. If I told the story it would be completely different but, the spirit of the story is the same.

        Where we seriously differ though is in our polar opposite approach to "success". You seem to stick in a comfort zone and only enlarge that zone a very little at a time whereas, I find a comfort zone and abandon it at all costs. I don't want to be comfortable. I want to be challenged, and challenges that I fail are the best of all because they truly must have been quite a challenge for me to not even be able to overcome them.

        I'm not saying either of us have a right or wrong way, I'm just pointing out how we are different, and using some "same" to express how I identified your problem before it even became apparent. It's not really that I am "right as usual" so much as I really do pay attention. I also consider things while I'm paying attention. You could even say that I have been waiting for just this moment to "prove" I'm paying attention.

        In the end, Blender is just a program and it has no way to know if you failed. I also highly doubt anyone here cares if you fail. I have failed a bunch of stuff since I came here, I just move on to the next thing and never look back. It doesn't seem like anyone else has made it a point to look back either.

        In other words, just do it

        PS: I have a humanoid base mesh that you can have to start your character. You will have to do some serious edge redirection to get all of those muscles but, the model has excellent proportions and shape. If you want it, just let me know and I'll hook you up.

          yes ive thought about that, about your cloneman base model, thinking it could save me the work of setting up a base humanoid mesh.
          so yush i would like it, i could take your humanoid base and modify it to create the body by adjusting shape of it to the nightgaunt.

          think i might just say 'screw it' to how the original model looks, and go with the look of the drawing i posted instead.
          i like it way more then the original model, and its not that different except for the head which is completely different.

          of course one thing id keep in mind is the size of the original model, so that the hand-position of lightning-firing animation will be able to match.
          thats one thing that needs to match, otherwise itll look weird cuz the arc thats supposed to go between the hands will be floating in the air instead

          • FIRST RESEARCH - LEGS

            was looking at the legs in the picture, i instantly had to think of dinosaurs (used to love em when i was young).
            i instantly noticed they seemed to resemble legs of dinosaurs quite much, more specifically the legs of either a velociraptor or a T-rex


            it has the more athletic legs of a velociraptor, but the foot looks more like that of a T-rex but with elongated toes.
            that, and the foot itself is also longer. but the general look of it is roughly the same except for some proportions

            so that will allow me to easily get good references for these types of legs, since the internet is full of pics of those two dinosaurs
            .

            • SECOND RESEARCH - WINGS
              next i looked at the wings, and noticed instantly they resembled dragon-wings a lot

              like these, but with two big nails at the top instead of one small one.
              and of course the nails at bottom a loooot longer


              when looking at them more, i also noticed the shape seemed quite familiar,
              and upon looking at SL which i had open on my other monitor, i realized where i knew this shape from:
              my current SL avatar's wings are pretty much the exact same type of wings!



              as you can see, the wings i have in SL even have the same double nails at the top like the nightgaunt has

              so thats awesome, means i can pretty much use my own wings i have in second life as reference for the wings of the nightgaunt

              .

              PS i just put on a minimal outfit, detached tail and changed to just a hair-base to show off the wings.

              • about your cloneman base model
                I'm flattered but, I didn't mean Cloneman. I have a "better" model that I paid for. It's "better" cause it already has excellent proportions and the edge flow is, what I call, blank. Everything is just concentric rings with no edge redirection. This means that you can customize this mesh very easily. You don't have to spend time trying to build hands and limbs, you can spend the time on some retopo.

                PS> Cloneman has some disaster areas on the mesh and really isn't what you want. Cloneman could be a representation of me getting 5% better at character modelling and still falling 40% short on creating solid material. In other woords you could say that cloneman is failure #26 (hypothetically). I get better and better every time though, so, one day my models will stop being "almost" something worth checking out. Building a good character model isn't any easier than building a bad-ass map. If you aren't a natural (I'm not) it takes a lot of research and practice. It becomes a bit more daunting when you realize that no matter how hard the model was, you still have an ass-load of other stuff to do to actually finish it. Not to mention that any character model you make generally means you are really going to make 2.

                I'll hook you up with the file soon enough. Don't get discouraged if it seems like a long time in contrast to how 'get it done now' I usually am. I will not forget and I am not procrastinating... I just need a proverbial minute.

                Actually, JD asked for some stuff a long time ago and I never sent it (cause I suck - ashamed of self, no excuse). Imma take care of all of that, And now I need some extra proverbial minutes (= hours, maybe even tomorrow morning).

                    not to long ago BV noticed something in a pic of 'something wicked' from me,
                    which i had totally forgot about that i had made long ago and thus never shared


                    an HD skin for Drake's Axeknight


                    its a mix&match from Reforged's knight&Dknight and Primevil's player-skin

                    i never shared it before because i didnt feel it was that good and not worth sharing,
                    but because Blood Vengeance asked for it i decided to share it after all

                    .

                    i've replaced the previous link to the HD axe with a new PK3
                    which includes the HD skin for axeknight

                    EDIT: ive also completely overhauled and re-organized the first post,
                    putting items into categories and sorting them alphabetically,
                    and ive moved the ruby wand that i also made to this thread

                        and i also added the drake dogs & spawns which i made long ago to the list.
                        i posted them somewhere in the past but even i couldnt find the posts anymore

                        now they're both easily findable in this thread

                          • not an HD model or texture, but i thought id post it here anyway so that it doesnt get lost.

                            long ago seven added the particle-flames from his small mod compilation into the drake QC from 2011

                            its a tiny mod for maps that to add the particle-flames formaps that use the drake-mod like Arcanum and Unforgiven


                            -IMPORTANT-
                            because only the QC from drake-mod from 2011 was available, this little mod will NOT work
                            with maps that were made AFTER 2011 like something wicked this way comes & nyarlathotep

                            if used with those maps you will get missing monsters & weapons and such,
                            most importantly quoth-monsters like the drole, gug & night-gaunt will be completely absent

                            .

                            ive added the QC-mod untill a new group 'other/extra' at the bottom of the list

                            EDIT: ive also added a link to seven's particle-flames for NSOE to the list so its easy to find

                            • just finished a model i randomly found which i completely forgot about.....


                              the church-bell (from hexen2) used in NSOE5

                              i had the model itself done long ago and all i had to do still was to animate it,
                              which i just did along with some optimizations, like reducing poly-count (its now ~1500 polys instead of 3000)
                              and making the model use just 2 textures instead of 4
