    they all look absolutely amazing, especially the hellknight you made looks epic!
    totally love the fur-effect you added to the hellknights legs, and the head just looks awesum

    hope you'll actually animate them some day for doomsday
    once new version of doomsday comes out which supports MD3-models <3

      A great example are the enemies of Serious Sam against Serious Sam III, in the latter everything is brown and gray; in the former they are nice and colorful.

      It might be more verisimilar, but heck! Who needs that when we are speaking of a zombie like entity with two chain-guns against a undefined spacefuture marine who can carry dozen of weapons and run?

        Agreed. I have no idea why there is such a strong push towards total realism in games, no matter the subject matter. Its like colours are now reserved for kids games.

        If you want to play colourful games these days, you have to buy a wii.

        An exaggeration of course, but it feel that way sometimes.

        Anyway, here is how Ogre boy is looking.

        Just bare in mind that its still a low poly sculpt, there is no high detail other than perhaps around the face. Also, the texture is just the low res original skin projected over top to give him some colour.

                Dunno what happened there. I got a lot done this afternoon and hes actually starting to look really cool. A hell of a lot better then the last shots anyway!

                I'll show a turntable soon.

                Im working on another blog for my Quake stuff, but will probably end up combining the Doom and Quake stuff into one blog.

                Got any ideas for a name for the blog?

                  like bobs blog of art...

                  or u can just call it blobs of art for short

                  or blart...

                          • I don't know, while I loved the heavy weapon dude model for doom I find this one less exciting.

                            Probably the mouth is too big; I see the point of showing the teeth, but something feels off...

                            Of course still a great job!

                            • I think the Ogre is more accurate and overall is already a better model.

                              It's really hard to take an iconic character and increase detail without losing touch with the original design. The ogres square head makes the face seem quite narrow on certain angles, so I've tried to keep the jaw line aggressive to maintain that shape.

                              The more I work on this stuff the greater appreciation I have for Adrian Carmack and Kevin Cloud. Those guys did an incredible job with the limitations they had.

                              • Added warts and other skin blemishes.

                                A lot more detail everywhere, feet are looking really good with ratty nails and cracked skin.

                                Leather armor has lots of battle scars, but nothing too over the top, so its not too repetitive.

                                Skin is actually still the original low res texture just painted over top.

                                I'm going to try and use the original skin textures to see how far i can take the model before it looks like total ass. The blurriness hides the low res a little, but you can still see the low-resiness quite easily in places, but i dont care.

                                My priority will be how it looks in game and while your playing. If you wanna stop and study the models you will see it, but while playing they'll look as good as they do in these screens.

                                Dont interpret the above that you are able to use skins made for the original model That's a big no.

                                As far as overall detail goes, im trying to keep things a little bit grungy and muddy. I dont want super high detail, i want quite chunky details that are picked up by the light better. The finer the detail, the less likely you are to see it in game anyway. Exaggeration of certain details in games is important for it to stand out.

                                Any suggestions for the next model?

                                I'm thinking shambler.
