It would be really easy to do badly, just drop the floor of the pool and change the lava to water, but if you noclip under Chthon you'll see he's got no legs or tail, nor any other appendages for that matter, so to do it well you'd have to model the rest of his body, which I suspect from the lack of home made monsters in mods and general griping I've picked up on about the limits of the .mdl format I suspect is rather easier said than done.Qoetia B4 == 1.93Mb

Quite right Senban- although there are two cases that come close: The Vermis from Quoth has a VERY long body because it's meant to rise high to reach players on higher ledges, and low to reach players on the ground (kind of like the Tentacle from Half-Life).
The other is the "Anaconda" from the custom map of the same name- though the water is just super shallow. There was a dynamic entry where his whole body coils all around you, but after they subside it's only his head (and personally, I wouldn't mind a few bobbing snake tail here and there trailing around behind him).
What I would find interesting is an aquatic boss that is basically Cthhon with a tail in a large room (maybe a grotto) filled with water and with a few ledges, where it can follow you around the room through the water, and you can either fight it from the surface (where it can throw stuff), or duck down underwater to try to get somewhere (maybe there's health below) and it can dive after you (maybe charges forward like the Ichthyosaur) but cannot throw anything....Check out my awesome Deviant art page!

Unfortunately I've no time to make even a quick test, but it's fairly easy.
In Darkplaces you have to create a folder inside /textures with the name of the map and the files to overwrite.
Example:
../id/textures/e1m7/lava.tga
where lava.tga is water, only renamed.
The result is having water in e1m7 but lava everywhere else, as usual.
The real problem is that chthon has no tail, his body ends right below the lava, as you already know, and it's not going to be a great match with water transparency.
BTW, my previous idea was to make a rotten demon - a mess of flesh and horns, that emerges from a pool of blood and human pieces, but I feared the "no faithful" hammer too much.

Oh and another thing. Since there was discussed about the gibbed heads...maybe you can make the heads puking blood like there was on the earlier deathknight-version ? this with growing bloodpools ?
But back to Cthon...i really like the idea of that rotten demon...ok without the proposed exploding poobut maybe with something like...demonic power filled in skins of human heads...and this power is glowing out of the eyes and mouth of that skin as cthon is throwing them at you and explodes on inpact...lets say...demonic TNT filled in heads
i think that would work just fine with a pool of blood filled with bodyparts

Speaking of which, you need to release the alt skin of Shub *****rath, with the throbbing heart, she's awesome! I'm still staring at it on the Reforged site!
On another note about 'water' textures- would it be the same deal with slime? (as the only downside about my retexture pack is that the slime looks a lot like murky water texture- which were it not for the green lighting and my familiarity with the game, would be pretty dangerous)!Check out my awesome Deviant art page!
