      Anyway, any news on progress with the Ogre? The still screenshots look just fine, and it's such a central monster to the game that it seems weird that it's the only regular beastie not available on the site.

        Yeah that's the only common monster we don't have a skin for at the moment and he's sticking out like a sore thumb... even with a different high res skin applied to him. I agree that the screenshots look just fine. Perhaps they are waiting to release him with chthon and the gibbed heads?

              • I'm sure they'll be back soon- considering all they've left to do is put the Ogre skin, and the different Cthon skins online! (hint hint).
                I imagine they're working on the various skins they thought of trying out and polishing at the moment.
                (and probably experimenting with a few other things I'd imagine- what I usually do with my own artworks- it's easier to work with whatever comes to mind than put it off to try to concentrate on something more immediate- which is pretty cool).

                  • That WOULD be awesome for the rotting-flesh model...

                    As long as one of those skins has chattering vertical teeth I'll be happy- maybe in the same vein as Shub *****rath's beating heart???

                    (on another note, that would be interesting- glowing veins, as actual veins instead of molten fissures....)

                            • Hi guys,
                              as you have already guessed, our "stealth mode" is only an imposition commanded by a mix of lack of time and the
                              realization that being present without delivering is worse than showcasing something worthy when ready.

                              I also read a few messages about the chances that we're going to abandon the project, but if even Duke Nukem Forever
                              is going to be released after 12 years, definetely you have nothing to fear

                              Ultimately we've allocated some time to review the animating process: Darkplaces gives us the chance to implement a few basic
                              shader effects, but not all the parameters from Quake3arena are available.
                              I personally made a lot of custom maps for it at the time so I was quite happy to re-use my previous expertise, though it resulted in a lot of wasted time, trying to understand what works and what is not yet
                              funtional.

                              We've tried to change the animating process, but what we did seems to be the only way around. It's not a problem
                              per se, but it's expensive having 5 textures for each frame of the animation...
                              The bright side is that each frame is actually a new skin and you may choose your favourite to be used alone, instead
                              of the full set (for example, Chthon has 8 variations).

                              As for Shub, we really wanted an animated Chthon, 1) because common monsters usually turn out bad or don't stay alive enough
                              to be enjoyed, 2) because bosses deserve a better treatment to stand out and 3) because I like animating
                              While Shub hasa fast-pumping heart, Chthon slowly liquefy from solid rock to burning lava, melting from the bottom up to
                              the horns, except for shoulders and chest that resemble a rocky armour. Chthon's animation has only 8 frames, but it spans the
                              whole fight, so it seems like he's changing form; not bad IMO.

                              If someone knows better, feel free to drop us a line.
                              (don't worry, we're not going delay further 'cause the actual size is reasonable enough for release)
