  • I a already have the animated bones for my own scrag model, rigging a new model to the existing bones would be a quick fix, a few hours of rigging and a few hours of tweaking although this model seems like it would need some extra movement for the face.. texturing is a totally different department.. if someone else feels like they are up to the challenge

    • The scrag should have it's tail straightened, that will make it much easier to unwrap and texture. The scrag is one of the few monsters (along with the fish) that's a good candidate for front/back texture projection as done in the original models, and unlike the originals relaxing the UV layout so you have the same amount of lateral texture real estate on is a really good idea.

      • It dosen't really matter with a Z-brush workflow. The model can be painted like a lead miniature in Z-Brush and then the whole shebang (including the diffuse texture) can be baked out in either Z-Brush or X-Normal.

            did you make any more progress on the ogre? this has been one of the things i been looking out for most in all the time since i joined these forums. and what you showed so far looked just pure amazing.

            would be a real shame if you wouldnt complete it


            so i really hope you're still working on it, cuz it was truely a piece of art

            • Hey, things have been hectic, but I'm still plodding away.

              There has been a fair bit of work done. I've realised that the original sculpt was too symmetrical on the cloth folds of the leather jerkin. So I took him back into Z-Brush and sculpted some more left and right handedness to the folds. That has all been baked back to the low poly and he looks much better. I've just got to add the Quake symbol back to the diffuse and that is pretty much done.

              I've also been working on the Chainsaw of late. I've got the texturing up to the net level on that.

              I've not had a chance to get the low poly of the grenade launcher done yet though, but that will come along shortly.

              I've done a few test animations. It is very difficult to just ape the actions of the original model, especially with the sizes and proportions being different.

              Here's where we are at the moment.

                • I think that most of the monsters are well covered as it is. Seanstar, Seven, OoPpEe and Ruhois are all doing a pretty good job at the moment. I took on the Ogre as I saw that nobody had done one of him. I thought it would be cool to take a crack at him as he was more human-form, while most of the critters I've done till now have been really strangely shaped.

                  I was working on a shambler, only because he's one of my faves and I wanted to do one. I know there are about 20 or so versions around the place of him.

                    and its great to see that you're still working on it and didnt abandon it, was afraid you left it since it had been so long since you posted anything. keep up the great work, its looking really amazing

                    and yeah most monsters have been kinda done. rott isnt as necessary anymore either now since seven ported over a dog from a quake2 mod which looks nice.
                    pretty muich really the only ones that would have to be done after you complete ogre would be knight and hellknight, the rest has been done already. lately ruohis has made a whole bunch which werent done yet, so those 2 are basically the only ones left to do. oh and the zombie of course, that would be great too if someone made a high-poly zombie. and chton and shub, completely forgot about those. but you only see both once in the entire game so they dont really have much priority to me personally

                    but would be awesome if you made those too after you finish the ogre teamonster

                      • i like the model, but i would add a belt or mabye robe to his waist. without anything there it kinda looks like a dress. other than that nice job!

                        • hmm meh i think tea monsters model looks a million times better.
                          that one in that clip looks kinda crappy, proportions are completely off and it doesnt even look like the ogre except for the fact it has an apron

                            Never say something like this for a WIP project.
                            The model from Tea Monster has been changed a lot since its first shape. The whole community supported him with ideas and tips.
                            The one from the youtube clip is 1 year old and nobody knows how it looks like today. If it still exists today. If we can give its author the same tips, we will never know how it will come out.
                            So please be gentle with these words like "million times better".
                            (especially when you see all the other work he did on his homepage or youtube page)

                            Anyhow, Tea Monster was kind enough to share his work with us and let us be part of it. I thank him many times for this.
                            Now the last big / difficult part must be solved: animation.
                            But I am more than confident that Tea Monster will do his magic and blow life into his great model

                                Are there any problems with DP and mirrored UVs with normal maps?
