Yeah I thought something was up...even Duff was being beaten...
and he left after a while...in disgust no doubt.
And there's no doubt that this WIN at all costs attitude is a sure sign of immaturity.
Domination just leads to a quick end of the game...as everyone leaves.
I mean really...it's just a game, for fun...who cares who wins?
I much prefer a close match with even teams - even if my team loses.
People take it too seriously...a sad indictment of human nature really?
Anyway, that's life I suppose.

one problem is that the ctf community is divided between threewave and pub type players. threewave people are insanely skilled, they can time RLs and quads, and for them the game seems to be about whoopin ass. they also seem to enjoy playing a relatively small range of levels. pub type people are more relaxed, lower-skilled, and i think they tolerate a wider range of game parameters--ie map, player numbers, etc. The threewave people are more organized, so most ctf games these days are dominated by them. when a pub type player comes in, they are quickly run off. i consider myself a pub-type player and find it miserable playing a match against elite threewavers. Since the number of threewavers is stagnant, ctf can only grow by bringing in more pub-type people

Be great if you could get another server happening.
Maybe a CTF server with bots might help the 'lack of games' situation...
as players might hang around on the server longer if there's things to kill. ; )

Hmmm...sounds like I've been playing the wrong game : )
High ping aside...I've always been...and am likely to stay a lower-skilled player.
(Although there is something to be said for 'capping' without firing a shot...
...or like someone else said...good at running away...ha.)
To be honest tho...I'm not sure if I totally understand the difference
between Threewave and PUB CTF.
Is it just the maps and the hook???

I think it's a misconception that threewave players only enjoy a certain number of maps, most of the players that play are open to playing just about any ctf map. There are a few who prefer playing just ctf 1 and ctf2m8, but that is the minority.

If I'm in the mood to play and see someone on a pub ctf server I'm more than happy to join up.

Unrelated note, is anyone going to get chicago.pulsegate.net put back up??!?!?

How to get back into Threewave CTF gaming

I guess this thread is 2 months old, but I am about 10 years behind on what is going on in the Q1 Threewave CTF world.

I used to be a hardcore Threewave CTF player, and after all these years and playing tons of other games, I still consider Quake 1 Threewave CTF the most fun in gaming I have ever had, and I have been gaming since Commodore 64 and Atari days....

Anyways, since some of you here on this thread seem to know what is going on with CTF nowdays, I am hoping you guys could get me updated on what is going on as in suggesting some forums or websites focused on Threewave CTF. Also, are there any regular Threewave CTF games that are scheduled, e.g. every Sat. and Sun. night or something?

Or maybe is there some contact list I can get on for those wanting to get more players for CTF?

there's not much CTF going on nowadays, at least not at regularly scheduled times, as far as i know. sunday nights were real hot about 9 months ago, but that has petered out. but i did have some nice games this week. keep your eye on the server browser on the quakeone.com homepage
