I really didn't like all of those addons, but after looking at your pics a while I changed my mind a little. .

Bump.
I cant say I like more quake than doom, nor the other way around. I love doom for it's quirkiness, sprites, and because it was my first approach to a good FPS (I played it around '97, so there was other bunch of stuff already out, but my computer was unable to handle). So, I grew playing doom. Then I discovered quake, and I fell in love. In a way, once I saw quake, there was no turning back, it's graphical capabilities completely blew my mind. I played it and got hooked in it's dark, messy, hostile environment.
However, I must say, as for vanilla, Quake is my favorite. However, being a modder myself, I found dozens of times easier to mod for doom, and that's what I did. Sourceports and all, but I mod doom like hell, where in quake, I can barely change skins.
So, basically it comes down to:
Favorite game vanilla experience: Quake (sourceports to beautify, but I dont actually use gameplay-mods)
Favorite game for mods or modding: Doom under an specific sourceport that while graphically might not be amazing, codewise is extremely powerful.

Hell no. There are more people who have a sense of taste. Cheers to you, my fellow superior non-hipster (actually, that probably makes us ultra-hipster)!

But anyway, no. You're not the only one. I love sprites, and I never use models for my doom modding unless is completely neccesary (and the one case that made it mandatory, I went ahead and used a voxel model, because I wanted to keep software render compatibility).

With Doom, I like the vanilla graphics the best, but I need mouselook - I think it's very much OK to use a port that has mouselook and a couple other improvements.
With Quake, I don't care if it's vanilla or retextured etc.
With my own maps, I prefer high resolution textures and everything else, but that doesn't take away from original Quake --- it's an addition, not a replacement.
BTW I use the 33kHz replacement sounds by Per Kristian. They're awesome.

I like doom vanilla myself, I use chocolate doom to play it, because I just prefer it the way it was originally, bugs and all. I played doom so much when it came out, that I just got used to the feel of it that way, and when I try to play it something like jdoom or some other "improved" engine, it just doesn't feel or look right to me.
No mouse look for me, just straight up keyboard action.Regular One Man Slaughterhouse
