Until today, I thought Mplayer was some sort of audio and video player... So, maybe the veterans could answer... What is Mplayer?

It was a game launcher / online community from the 90's that made it really easy for you to create a game lobby, invite people to play and chat with them. It was like a chatroom with the ability to create games from outside the game. A sort of slicker version of a server browser.

So you want to play Deathmatch or CTF or Qball on a particular map with certain settings? You can set that up. See a game in progress with an opening and you want to play? You can join. Need to lock a game lobby to play a 1v1 to prove a point? You got it.

It was a very cool program back in the day. This new one looks promising as well.

Mindfieldzx, the NEW client is not ready for release yet. Currently, you can download the other one @ Mplayer | Download Mplayer Client Software.

Right now the game launching system does not work fully, but everything else does. We will be making a room to watch the match via room URL. The room will have full audio and chat capabilities.

If you want to be part of the show, get another team member and we will 2 on 2 LIVE on Mplayer. Register and download the client. We will be in the "General chat" lobby in the "FIGHT NIGHT" Room (Trophy Room) Friday @ 9PM. You can talk with any of the Mplayer staff (has special icon next to name) and they will point you in the right direction. Bring all of your friends and tell them not to forget the popcorn.

Once the NEW Mplayer client is completed, we will have our own platform that will integrate all of this together.

            Update: New alpha client launched!

            Guys,

If you haven't done so yet, please register and download the new client at Mplayer.co! Remember, the new client is still in its alpha stages and it does not have a certificate with Microsoft yet. We are currently working on getting it; check with your virus scanner if you want and just click "run anyway". The voice codec is using Opus (the same one Discord uses.) Also streaming video and game launching capabilities are currently working! These games include Quake1, Quake2, MOHHA, and Quake 3. You just make a room in the game lobby of your choice. You will then be able to pick the map, frag limit and player limit. When you join those lobbies you just point to the the EXE that you want it to launch the game from. We provide the voice, video and even the game server to launch from.

This client is a lot more modern than our previous one, so guys please give us a shot, we are really making headway now. If anyone has any suggestions or want to help in any way please feel free to let me know. You can contact me at [email protected].

I really believe this could be one way to bring more people back to Quake. I think if we at least give it a shot, we could be on to something.

            Thanks guys.

I have signed up and downloaded the client, looking good.

Gotta love that client startup video, very 90's!

Jumped in the Quake room a couple time. Hopefully see some people there soon for a game

Yeah agreed. The Mplayer gaming service is what I think of when I think of Mplayer.

The Mplayer linux media player initial release was 2000.
The Mplayer PC gaming service was in 1996.
