I got tired of reading around the end of page 4...

I like my admins like I like my ninjas. Invisible and anti-pirate.

I see a lot of he said she said they said they did I did in this... Whenever you attempt to justify your retaliation as anything more than that, you justify their forthcoming retaliation in kind.

Quake is no longer numerous (we're no longer the only significant online first person shooter presence and haven't been for a while), I am not interested in the abolishing of anyone in anyway, I avoid slander, because it gets boring (check out most standup comics, dull repetitious slander). Just be tactful as an admin, and server operators, be tactful in choosing your admins.

If my gameplay experience is not hindered by consistent harassment (consistent, not sporadic) or rampant cheaters, and the events don't seem governed by someones personal tastes (we're playing dm3, again, and everyone has to use the airfist!), then I would call that a great admin.

I guess I miss this sort of thing because I tend to do matches on empty servers with friends on irc or such.

There aren't enough of us left to not practice forgiveness and patience even more so before that, burn me for this statement, but beyond calm discourse, it hurts us.

I dislike some of the people on here. Thats about as far as it goes. Dislike me? Its Quake, shoot me with a rocket.

Omi, most people dislike you apparently, but I must say I'm impressed with your analysis of the situation, including this part. It is 100% on target as far as Phenom is concerned. I know nothing of the Chad situation so I can't speak for/on that, and I like Chad, but the part about phenom and everything is spot-on. Phenom Boo-the-fuck-hoo'd about his loss of power, victimized himself, and started a new server and called it adult.

I sure hope us "adults" don't all act like 13 year olds or else this world is going to hell in a handbasket pretty quickly.

Like some people have added into these threads, I just rarely go there anymore as I don't want to deal with BS.

Server wars are fine, but as long as everything has a positive attitude and the competition is of the friendly type.

It is my opinion that a more popular form of pub CA server can be done, but anger/hate/bitterness is something that should not be a part of it.

Some may feel resentment about some things -- that's natural, but don't act on it. Channel that feeling into something positive.

I remember past "server wars" that had anger and mean-spirited conflicts and the players -- for the most part -- wanted no part of it. Some of us remember those guys -- and if you recall -- some of them were very childish (acted like 5 year olds) and did not set an example.

Cooperation is the reason that online (Net)Quake is alive again compared to 2004/2005 when it was really thin.

No one has to like every single other person -- although that would be better, but those that are contributing something above and beyond just playing (whether running a server or some other form of contribution) should at least be courteous to others doing the same if things are to grow.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Baker's right - Cooperative competition is mutually beneficial.

2 Examples of Competition in Sports/ Sports Entertainment. I used to watch lame-ass wrestling back in the day, so::

WWF - WCW in the late 1990s. The competition was good until one company (WCW) essentially lost. It was not mutually beneficial towards the end, McMahon ended up buying WCW, and the popularity of wrestling in general STEEPLY declined after the establishment of essentially a monopoly.

Pride - UFC currently. The cooperation may not seem friendly at times, but it certainly is mutually beneficial and not meant to cause one or the other to 'go under'. This has resulted in the exponential growth of MMA, and it will continue to grow, as Henderson (Pride) fights Jackson (UFC) for a sort-of Super Bowl of MMA at UFC 75. Both companies benefit and gain exposure, and assuming they don't try to put one another under, it should continue to grow in popularity (and is actually healthier than pummeling the shit out of the most important organs of the body for 12 rounds)

Just a couple of mainstream examples. The point is, competition should not result in an idea as archaic as victory, but rather stimulating interest in general. Victory is fruitless.
