DarkPlaces has support for both NQ and QW.

Quake onto Steam is as much publicity as it is going to get. The boost would be if from Quake purchase page from Steam there would be a link to the homepage here.

Do you really think that NQ and QW players and games could get along nicely? They feel majorly different and I do not think that more that some single digit percent of each player bases would put up with that. Nothing stops any player from "peeking over into each other's cup of tea" anyways.
The QW scene is very stubborn. Dunno about the NQ people but I guess it is a similar "elite".

Nothing lasts forever. You people need to move on, quit trying to save a slowly dying death of an old game that soon will not even work with future hardware/software.

Die Hards <- is what we have here. ET:QuakeWars is where's it's at now.

The FTE experience when connected to a NetQuake server is pretty bad. Type "nqconnect bigfoot.quake1.net" in FTE and walk around and you'll see what I mean. That's why I included the wording "and did justice to them both" at the end of my sentence.

I think I read Rook saying he's thinking about adding Quakeworld support to Qrack, that would pretty interesting.

Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

This game will always serve as a training tool for me to keep my reflexes sharp.

Before I play any FPS I warm up my hand by doing warm-up exercises into Quake, therefore it will always be alive.

                  Interesting Baker..

You can't divide newbies into a separate section of quake where the oldschool players don't go. The oldschool players have the raw skill and knowledge of the game. It's written into them as habit. New players want to soak up knowledge, right. But what new player wants to play some fantasy version of quake to get started before they jump into the real action of CAX? or DM whichever you prefer. Once a new guy has picked their destination (server with the settings they like), they want to go to the world of the elite, so they can have their ass handed to them over and over and over again, until they start noticing they can survive a beat down, and maybe push back a little bit. The skill of the top players will rub off on the new ones. The newbie wants to go from worst to first. How else do you gauge your progress other than remembering when you started playing online you were dead a few seconds after the countdown?

So new players join.. then what?

All the old players are still too elite to make the game fun, like it's their job to keep quake one for the elite only, and piss and moan on the servers rather than welcome anyone new. But I notice alot of you wanting new players for the community? Bring in the fresh meat, easy kills for the oldschoolers. I'm sure it helps them poke out their chest. Just don't start winning new-guy, or else suddenly quake one sucks and everybody hates it.

Some players are all cliqued out with eachother, more focussed on game politics than actually just playing and having a good time. They worry more about maintaining elite status politically than not getting their ass handed to them by any low class new player. If you win a few too many instances, then nobody wants to play with you for a grocery list of reasons, which all pretty much implicate that you're a low class player. You're not elite. You get no respect from the elite, which consequently is the dominant majority of the server population.

Anyone who disagrees can hop into an IRC channel and discuss it with fellow elitists, and leave their opinion away from the forum where they risk criticism from the lower class players.
