Don't even know if that's possible, but that was my idea.

    I know it wouldn't work if the servers went away, or new servers added, would mean a new "lobby" map each time, but for the SOLID servers that have been up for awhile, I think it would be a great idea. You could just follow who you wanted into the server! Or hang out in the lobby and wait for people to show up.

    I also introduced this idea to R00k, and he said it was possible. But for in QRACK, when you push TAB it shows EFF, KILLS, DEATHS, etc in the tab screen so you dont have to do "status", "eff", "killstats", etc.

    Just my 2 cents
    It would be cool if this would be a server in which your client (proquake, Qrack, whatever the standard client for everyone to use will be. Im an advocate of everyone using a new client for Quake which will have all these features) automatically logs into the server.

    Then if people want to chat, they can hang out there and talk, and enter a game together once they are ready to play (instead of bringing the chat into the game).

      I might be sort of an extra-terrestrial but what I like with Quake today is playing custom maps that are in the same spirit than those from the original game, medieval, fantasy, gloomish, I don't know if you can experience this with any other game.

      From this, what would make Quake better ? Complex story-line, deeper interaction with the world, and why not, something like WoW, a virtual world you can expand with time, a sort of combination between a single and a multiplayer game, going through different worlds by teleporting to different servers.

      Who codes this ? :-)

        I really like your idea of "MMORPG Quake" heh... and im sure it is do-able, but I don't know how "massive" the game could be since it would take PC servers to run and some of the community itself is "comming out of pocket" for what we have now.

        A REAL MMORPG version of Quake 1 would blow minds I bet. With actual inventory, currency and actual outdoor environments!

        I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on this, especially from the mappers, coders andother contributors who coul make this happen!

          Would any of that make Quake better? One of the great things about the game is how simple and solid it is. No pretentiousness, no complexity, no thinking required. Better, maybe, but certainly no longer Quake.

              I hope you're speaking for yourself because I remember the best part being when the community started making all the cool new maps, SP missions, mods, models and complete conversions.

              If you're serious about what you say then you want vanilla "1.06" WinQuake?

              To me the funnest part about Quake was seeing all the fun stuff people could create (including myself) and play with friends or even strangers!

              I only see one constant in Quake and that is...EVERYTHING IS PUNISHABLE BY FRAG, as long as that rule doesn't get broken then its still Quake. As long as the weapons are intact and the physics are solid & true.

                  Dredd was changed without permission by somebody that shouldn't have changed it. Dredd got plenty of play, just as much as rage or speaknow for the longest time. It's not keeping a server on DM3 that keeps players.

                      I had made a small quakeC "lobby" for intertex, which just allowed 16 people to camp the server and displayed a menu of options to choose which port to play on. As, you can see not many people hang out on the servers, so idling in a lobby wont help much either, unless you just cannot connect to IRC. Best way to get games going is to reinforce the organization. Ya know netQuake might not be the best netcode but, we have all the mods and engines we just need players. Scheduled games, weekly stats postings, winners by week--etc..

                      Last night on Dredd people were wanting more rockets at spawn so they could Rj around, this could be an alternate to Rj.

                        i think im making a lobby map, ill post what its got as thus far n shittzah

                        editz : aight here som imahges:

                        grass simuli for the cheap effects

                        will be a building with ports to servers

                        a air shot of the frolic field including a streams of sorts, "alabaster" bridges a starfield sky texture etc.

                        and its full of half assed brushes and misaligned textures

                        oooh yeeeaah also, if there will be a lobby thing, you should track down that gunter and ask him to code in some sweet dance moves, like in fvf
