    Well said.

It actually feels like Quake has been ran by Dick Chenney for the last 8 years and we just got an Obama on our side HAHAHA

Player Lobby - Mute Control would be a good start.

the ability to mute individual players has been brought up in the past and im surprised it's still not implemented!

All though I haven't seen a big use for this option it is a very desirable feature.

I'm wondering if by player lobby you mean in game player lobby or a separate program which lets you chat in game lobbys until the game starts? Personally I would prefer to see an ingame option which is tightly integrated into the system. It could be a major breakthrough for organizing games!

Thas what I am saying! If I see even one person I would go there. So, I been giving my Yahoo Messenger handle out, saying, if u wanna Quake pm me - cuz I am so fricken bored of Quake right now. And I am not asking for much - just variety?

I was made aware of dredd, when Frenzy took me and Scott from speak and we played - but I cannot stay hours n hours, so I had to go. But I would like to return and play on regular.

And Nexuiz played fine for me, I was just not feeling its Unreal-type game-play. Warsow was much better.. but now I am on QuakeLive.

            Thanks.

              Ingame lobby bro, no doubt.

If we needed an outside program, I'd advocate people to download Mplayer, but I haven't done so.

If we had a player lobby, it would be useful to invite people you see online, or even get DM/CTF/CA games started.

                  It would be built-in.

The age of external crappy junk should be one that is left behind. I'm sure of all the open source out there that there would be something that could be molded to fit this need and integrated.

There is also a chance that it could take the form of a megahub where a modified lightweight protocol allowed, say, 255 players to meander around a map and go to say, the CTF gate and wait for some players to show and when all 8 player points have a player on them (like 4 blue pads and 4 red ones), they are forwarded to an available server.

Just fyi. Not sure if this will work out or not. I talked with ava some time last month and we decided to set up a public quake1 teamspeak2 communication server. I started out configuring just the CA servers. Channels are listed by server/port. I was going to do team sub-channels so teams could communicate. A lot of ppl would abuse that though since you can still observe other players even when you're dead. So I set the channels up to not allow sub-channels to be created. So everyone is in one channel and communicates with each other. Could be fun.. Would still be abused though but luckily it's easy to admin and eliminate abusers from being able to participate. I don't know players would even be interested in talking to other players while they're playing. Would be a lot of trash talking. People that think it might be fun to be able to do that though will have the opportunity here soon when I make all the server info public knowledge.

And of course we could do the same with DM and CTF.

There is an option to disallow dead observers in CAx from chasing opponents, and only allowing them to follow teammates. This deters them from as u mentioned, telling their team where the other guy is. Also as u observer your teammate you cannot aim around to say "behind you foo!"

I like what I'm seeing here. I'm glad you brought this up Ramp. It seems there are some solid ideas taking hold including some inticing experimental features. This is exactly what needs to be done: brainstorming among the forums, but without action it will end up being useless as always.

I think Phenom had a good idea on making a "project team". The project team would be a great way to organize what needs to happen here.

                        Some important ideas so far:

                        - No more DM3
                        - Player pre-game lounge (whether it be in-server or not)
                        - Accurate statistics/achievements located on quakeone
                        - End game podium outro (still experimental)

What we need is action, and I would be willing to lend my help in any way I can.

                          Actually, I like this idea.

It's interactive, and at least it would create some familiarity between people, so we can keep co-existing.

As long as there is a mute button, of course.

More than action, we need long-term commitment from A+ skill people (like yourself). I myself am never leaving (like in the past there may be periods of time where real life dominates for a bit).

No offense to anyone else, but even an unlimited amount of support by people who can't code would not be enough.

And true reality is that let's say we have everything in place and the key QuakeC is closed source, that is a recipe for either a stillborn community or one with an extreme bottleneck dependent on a 1 or 2 people. People are going to want to mod things if the community is successful like they want to mod things in Nexuiz or Open Arena or you name it and not having an outlet for that would deprive us of skilled future participants.

This means we need something open source as a basis for some of the mods (everything doesn't need to be open), like FFA or even an open source round-based skeleton of mod.

But beyond even commitment, we need a fully developed plan. Desire is not is not enough. Commitment is not enough. Organization is everything.

Ok, so who can commit time to developing some of these new features? (in your spare time).

Enlist your name below, and give your contact (e-mail address) next to it.

Some of the new features may/may not include:
in-game chat lobby where you can invite friends/players into a game
                                mute control for every player
                                in-game voice chat (questionable)
                                New player models
New stat system which automatically updates/integrated w/ Quakeone.com
Podium standings when the game is over
