It'd be nice if like the quake client connects and once it's validated and whatnot, it requests a list of maps on the server. Client downloads and compares it with the local map database. Maps not found are downloaded prior to being dropped in the game.

It'd be useful for when we're playing CTF and rook warps it to some crazy map he found - i.e. wet.bsp.
I thought R00k's Qrack and Baker's ProQuake clients already had this feature.

Only Qrack. Rook gave me the code, I thought I was going to put in into an update in December but I never got around to it.

I really need to do this.

As long as it isn't twig and berries physics, I won't object.

I think a lobby is a great idea, but should it really be in-game? I don't get sound from Quake when it's minimized and will have to constantly be switching from my desktop to Quake to see if anyone is there. Kind of defeats the purpose of the lobby.

Not really, if you're playing Quake.. you're playing Quake.., some people can't alt tab out of Quake (for example, me) due to their video cards.. so an ingame lobby gives me the opportunity to go back to the lobby, find someone to play with, then re-enter the game.. just like ps3 .. u play the game, go back to the in-game lobby.. it's no different..

I dunno, I like the idea of being able to do other stuff while I wait for someone to join a server. If it's a separate client you could browse the web or what ever and maybe hear a noise or some notification that someone is ready to play. Double click on the server in the lobby and have it load Quake.

I was discussing this idea with R00k or Crackdog awhile back. Or maybe Bam, or maybe Phenom, or maybe all of them, who knows. Or Peg!

But I thought of a map, think of the Start Map, that was a lobby, only with a bunch of different teleports to each of the servers. So instead of the basic 3 teleports as in Start, you'd have like a circle of teleports around you, each one with the server name above it, like "Dredd", "HDZ 3wave", "HDZ DM", "Speaknow", "Shmack", "Euroquake", etc. and when you walk up towards the teleport, it popped up a list of who's currently on the server in front of you. Don't even know if that's possible, but that was my idea.

I know it wouldn't work if the servers went away, or new servers added, would mean a new "lobby" map each time, but for the SOLID servers that have been up for awhile, I think it would be a great idea. You could just follow who you wanted into the server! Or hang out in the lobby and wait for people to show up.

I also introduced this idea to R00k, and he said it was possible. But for in QRACK, when you push TAB it shows EFF, KILLS, DEATHS, etc in the tab screen so you dont have to do "status", "eff", "killstats", etc.

                                Just my 2 cents
