  • Most Difficult Enemy

    Since many of you know Quake like the back of your hand, you probably dont find any of the monsters difficult anymore. But sometimes even if your god when it comes to Quake, almost any monster can give you a hard time if your low on ammo and health. This thread is to find out, according to the QuakeOne community, which monster is the most difficult enemy.

    Its become clear to me no one owns any of the expansion packs so i'm going to just list the most difficult enemies of Quake. I'm leaving out the bosses because niether of them are difficult.

    I assume we're talking singleplayer so I voted spawn because they blow up in your face.

      yeah Spawns are such a bitch to run into

      my second would be wizard because I'm just like a guy in a movie and never think to look up, and there mostly in custom maps and they'll be places whee they come from nowhere to get you in a group like of 70 and you only got the shotgun and 25 shells [most common issue is they happen to manage to be the first monsters in many custom maps, i find]

        none of them are really difficult at all. except the spawn, hes a pain sometimes

          Where's the grunts at?

          Anyway, for me it's between the Shalrath (Vore) and the Shammy. I went with the Vore because there really aren't any tricks to avoiding their attacks, unlike the Shammy where you just have to dance infront of him and he'll keep swinging at air.

              No shit, what i mean is that you have to maneuver around while fighting a vore, where the shammy you don't have to be as tactical with.

                      Nightmare Vores on FvF are the worst.

                      Monster, while I can almost respect your opinion about FvF being stupid, how is it glitchy?

                        Voted SPAWN- nastiest by far- really hard to hit, and unless you pick them off before they get started you WILL pay dearly for it.

                        The runner up would have to be the fiend- put two in a room and you may well find yourself cut down to size in seconds. Hell- each swing knocks out a whole quarter of your health!

                        The Shamblers and Vores really aren't THAT dangerous in comparison- if you kill them quickly their attacks don't take TOO much out of you.

                        It is a pity that too few people know some good expansion/mod monsters, as you said Radec- it would be interesting to see which ones are at the top (of course, Nehahra bot monsters are probably the worse)

                        Excluding bot script, I would definitely say the Death Lords from Quoth- the volley of semi-homing balls they shoot can carve you down to a twig!

                        As far as average expansion enemies, none of them are actually that 'hard'- the Gremlins are probably the most troublesome- one second you're a baddass action hero armed to the teeth- next second you're swinging an axe while the little bastards are shooting you in the face with your OWN arsenal (and using your ammo)
                        But they're really easy to take out.
                        The centroids are absolutely vicious in a fight- unless you're jumping or standing on higher ground- then they don't attack you at all!

                          the reason i said the shamblers is because unless you have a peforator or thunderbolt, they are horrible blighters to kill. the vores would take my 2nd vote because sometimes, even taking the sharpest of corners running from their voreballs, it still managers to take the corner and hit me. but the vores can be taken out easily with any weapon whilst the shambler cant.

                          the spawn isnt common enough for me to be difficult.

                              i'm surprised the Vore has taken the vote. i mean it is one of the most terrifying parts of the game when you kill a vore just after she fires 1 or 2 voreballs at you and then you start to run away, taking all the corners you can find but you never hear the explosion of it hitting the walls only to look behind you to see it still there less than a 30cm away from you.

                              but i still think the shambler is the more difficult enemy to take down. after playing episode 4 again, and getting raped by voreballs, blasted by shamblers, and raped again by spawns, the shamblers are by far the hardest.

                              Shamblers- You have to take quick shots at him and then take cover before he blasts you, something that can take ages since he has the most health (apart from Shub-Niggurath) and you gotta prey to god that he doesnt follow you to a dead end.

                              Spawns- I dont see what the fuss about these guys are. If your going one on one with one then all you gotta do is dodge its attack and then run like hell whilst turning around and trying to shoot it before it catches up to you. And most the time you see them napping so a quick rocket attack will kill them before they even wake up.

                              Vores- Their powerful attacks will follow you threw out an entire map if you let it catch up to you so try to take cover as soon as she launches the attack. In fact, if you let the voreball get within a meter of you, i dont think its possible to get away from it. Its possible this will happen if she shoots just as you kill her and your not prepared right away to start running.

                              The fact i'm sticking too is 6/8 of the weapons are effective against the Vore, but only 3/8 of the weapons are effective against the Shambler.

                              Whilst my choice is the Shambler and then he is followed by the Vore, my next choice would be between Death Knight and Fiend.
