so its a case of text'd binds vs mute ablity? hmm i think each client should have it built in to where they can privately mute and unmute people individually or everybody at the same time, that have binds or say things that bother them, instead of it being all done server side where it mutes that person from everyone. Sorta like in yahoo chat rooms you can mute the person on the mic and mute them seperately in text. That would be a cool feature

This is kind of a neat post. But isn't really true. Maybe of corporate sites with zombie slave user bases, but even then I doubt it.

The site has a purpose which is to maximize the health of the game Quake for what can be done in the current environment. And there is no specific route to that goal, but to obtain the objective:

1. Attract a sustainable amount of web traffic to keep influx of users, talent and an audience. (We do this in spades.)
2. Promote interesting works and developments. This fuels interest and accumulates an atmosphere.
3. Let anyone belong to and participate in the community in whatever aspect they like.
4. Acknowledge and grant access to resources for developers and key community contributors and encourage it.
5. Identify individuals with no interest that aligns with the community and impair them. One example, spammers. Super rude behavior like attacking newbies. Users childishly posting porn in the forums when they get upset and requiring too much admin attention.

It really is more of meritocracy than anything else. People that help (*) a great deal are acknowledged and given extra abilities to help and greater trust.

(*) Help is an interesting concept. Wanting to help or trying to help isn't the same as actually making a difference. This is where skills and resources come into the equation, with skills always being favored over resources, with dedication being favored over both. One example, it is obvious that, for example, R00k's ability to both engine code and write and maintain mods like CTF or CAx puts him on a higher tier than someone hosting a server, plus the fact he has been a long-time contributor.

that's just you and your admins running your site the way you want it run. I never said that was a bad thing. I guess the way I said it made it sound like a totalitarianist-type thing, and hey, maybe some web admins are like that. But not all of them have to be jerks. If they chose not to be jerks, they are still running things the way they want to.

And if you read this thread you'll see that Frenzy can't even defend his reasoning for MVP talk being a mutable offense. Perhaps he was having a bad day. He knows what he did was uncalled for and has conveniently left this thread.

You're right, there is no visible proof to over 98% of regular Quakeone.com users. Have you tried asking Frenzy politely to bring back that thread? (Though I seriously doubt that would happen).

Still, all I'm seeing is a bunch of talk that should have been dealt with through PM's, not everyone wants or needs to be a part of your argument, only the people in evolved, so don't get upset when you put your dirty laundry out there and get blasted.

To me this argument should have only involved 2 grown ass adults, Magnus & Frenzy to settle their own disputes.

If I wanted to instigate anything I would have called you wrong. I'm trying to see this issue from both sides.

Personally I think this thread was a waste of space which takes from the time users could be spending doing something constructive for QuakeOne.com instead of listening to people bicker over trivial stuff to them.

Frenzy can't even explain in this thread why talking about MVP is a mutable offense.

Fact is people talk about MVP'ing all the time in CAx. It's never been an issue before. Nobody has ever complained about it.

Some of you seem to think I was swearing, or attacking verbally, etc.. because you are assuming that would warrant a muting on a pub server. I was simply saying saying "MVP SO WHAT" type talk, and as soon as I said "Frenzy is about to get his first MVP" he muted me. The fact that he stands behind it as a necessary muting and not one out of jest backs up further that it was done in the wrong.

While we're at it. Why do you want that specific thread to be replaced? Should we also bring back Paradise's threads? Omicron's threads? If the decision were to be made to bring your thread back on the base of "While this thread was unnecessary but someone is bitching because the thread was removed" What do you think that would attract? More people complaining to bring back threads or completely unnecessary threads that would be unimportant to the majority.

Magnus I'm not disrespecting your feelings, you're doing what you feel is right. But there's protocols and ethics that everyone must follow even in public, same goes for Quakeone.com

I advise you to take this issue up personally with frenzy and if there is a real issue there then use the chain of command.

I'm not here to fix your(in general) problems as an admin, I'm here as an admin to fix THE problems.
