For my above post and anyone that may think it is contradicting to my opening post about 'garnering interest'.. I came to a realization about half way through this forum and then noticed rcade pretty much stole the words out of my mouth.. gaining 'new comers' isn't exactly what I meant.. more so bring the old school guys back

How can we garner more interest in Quake?

There are some trick maps on bigfoot. I've played some myself. In netquake, the lower the ticrate, the easier it is to do these tricks. Bigfoot runs at a ticrate of .015... which is quite low.e|------------------------0---------------

a theme for func's speedmapping events
I would make you a trickmap, but I have no idea what's needed. Maybe someone like Peg would be a better person to do this.
Anyway, if you want this, open a thread for it and post what's needed, and post links to examples or list example jumps in normal maps that you think are trickmap-worthy... I might be interested to make something.

Peg's certainly an excellent choice but I guess it largely depends on what his calendar is like and of course whether he's willing
Just in case it helps, perhaps a NetQuake version of something along the following lines might be a good first step in the right direction?...
Kind regards

I would like to see some maps designed for competitions.
Specifically ;
Aim ,Height ,Speed, Decisions, Swimming and perhaps problem solving and avoiding booby traps.

For trickmaps, would it be possible to build something like a mini-arena for people that say, get stuck and can't advance, but still want to have fun and stay on the server? A few Team Fortress Classic maps managed to do that, and I thought it was pretty clever. It'd probably require some scripting to make sure that someone couldn't leave the arena and massacre the people still trickrunning with all the weapons in the arena.

You need to find a way to make q1 more relevant in today's era of gaming. We need fresh new ideas or at least ideas that would be new to quake.
Here's an interesting concept - Two teams, one vehicle, one team has to touch the vehicle to make it progress to a finish line in X amount of time. You have probably seen this before in games like TF2, but its fun.
I think introducing ideas like this to q1 could promote stimulation.
I miss the old days. The cK vs cgib rivalries. DC-CON's, etc.

The idea isn't to change Quake into something more appealing to "today's generation" or whatever. It's about raising interest in what Quake is today.e|------------------------0---------------
