I understand why projects need a "lead", but you would figure that we are all evolved enough to simply do what we said we were going to do, and do it the best we can.

For instance, I could make a brand new Quake Ranger, and my model would be solid, but my texture would suck (they always do). So, you tell me, "make us a ranger" and I tell you "no problem but you have to find someone else to skin it." You say "Ok, lemme know when you have a UV'd model for us to work with"

    who was the lead?

If there is a supposed "lead" it's me at this point - because it's still not off the ground. The project doesn't have a site, and is not (officially) recruiting yet.

I agree with your sentiments regarding 'doing what you say you'll do' I think that's the best approach to have.

Text only communication is challenging, lack of vocal inflections has allowed a few of my statements to be misunderstood. I got carried away with a train of thought that would have been best kept to myself. Forgive the thread intrusion, my apologies.

Design tools are of a personal decision, with many many options available both open sourced and commercial, and since everyone seems to have there own "tool set" of choice, they are free to use "whatever gets the job done", end of story. BUT, the end product from each contributor has to be delivered in a consistent and agreed upon format. Afterall, the content is the projects life's blood!
If your project includes levels, your level designers damn well better agree on an editor to use. Take this from someone who has been level designer in a team remaking Quake for 5 years.

Reason: Worldcraft and Radiant etc. map formats are incompatible, and as soon as one LD needs to do something on another LD's map, you'll run into trouble.

Much the same goes for modeling suites; if half your team uses FBX format and the other uses Collada or Blender, same kind of trouble.

Get your pipelines straight and require members to use them if you want to have a fighting chance.

There is a reason why projects like The Dark Mod have their own level editor that everyone uses.

You have no idea of the kind of trouble you will see.

For an engine, I recommend to pick something that is ACTIVELY MAINTAINED and whose main coder will actively support and work with you. I have lots of respect for Darkplaces, but it is *not* that kind of engine right now at this moment.

You guys are real fokin geeks hehe... I admire your talent which I don't have at all (not even close) BUT I do have the same passion about Q1 (even if I'm still sort of a newbie at many many things)!

Is the Quake font copyrighted (anyone else have an opinion/info about it)

            #2
What is the main "objective" target (1-2 lines please)

You flatter me, thank you for thinking highly of me. That empowers me to be better. GT google hangout looks cool, I may add it to the list of options. The site I'm working on comes with a chat feature and customizable forums... Which do you think would be more effective?
            http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-tal...tml#post126848

None are effective/productive... they just fun/interesting.

Got to do some homeworks/analysis and will come back Today (or little later) about it.

            I have GOALS

            #1
I want to get more people to play with/against "online" so I can make new friends that like Q1 just like me.

            #2
My 1st "dream" would be to have a new shareware updated for 2013 (fully playable like the full version except E2-3-4 I guess) which possibly/could have a 30 days trial (or not).

            QR

            I have a DEAL

            #1
If you see what I'm looking for by now, we could be on 2 different tracks but like I said to Mindz before... I can afford going on two roads if my chances to achieve something are greater.
            http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-mod...tml#post126393

I then suggest that if it is the case, we should help each other anyway... I'd be very grapeful (haha I wanna say... greatful I guess) for anything you whish/would/could do about it.

            Is it compatible/complementary... let's check/organise this!!

@others in regard to my last post:

goldenboy has completed a mod and a mammoth one at that. He knows that even putting a few points on the board is hard as hell.

If you aren't afraid of this kind of project just a little, it means you haven't sized it up. You should be a bit intimidated by it.

This amount of work isn't just going to happen automagically. And the original "hey no leader just community does stuff thing" is a flat-out pipe-dream.

Now if someone picks up the ball with this, puts on game-face and runs --- obviously QuakeOne.com will broadcast it on a "loud-speaker" just like we did, for example, with Remake Quake or Quake Reforged or RQuake or <insert other hard-fought ambitious projects>.

And the whole community will back you, because everyone is rooting for Quake.

/Exits conversation, because I'm not trying to be a distraction, but I am concerned by the lack of "fear". Not even small projects get completed without a lot of hardwork and sweat. Yields to anything goldenboy or others with gems of wisdom might have to say either as a words of foresight or words of encouragement.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

I do agree 50/50 with what Baker said...

QR does fear... I can imagine him just like this:

Fear is the most important feeling human still have/need to "understand" and to "control" (get over it).

American (USA most of it) does have great fear and that makes them to compete and stand on top of many other (most) countries in the world.

But is this really the best... fear is from our recent past and the day we "all" stop to fear it will be a great new era.

QR would probably think/say to this... ya sure (look at me above) but hey... I'm just looking for some commitment and we'll try to deal with our demons.

                  Hi all

A permanent Google Hangout is now available (general public) to join the Free Quake 1 project (which is 1st to be discussed to decide/determine "what" it will be exactly).

                  Meet us NOW

                  https://plus.google.com/hangouts/_/2...huser=0&hl=en#

We will be testing this tool and more "instructions" will be provided very soon... for now, just hangout and have fun (while we can start some work if everything is ok).

                  NOTES

I didn't made real tests with many browsers... it works fine with IE (Internet Explorer).

To join a hangout you simply need a gmail account (http://www.gmail.com).

                  Then go to https://plus.google.com/hangouts/_/2...huser=0&hl=en#.

You will then be invited to install a simple plugin.

You most probably already have .NET Framework but if you need to install it (you will have a message on-screen telling you "You need .NET Framework Version 3.5 SP1") then just go to Download .NET Framework Version 3.5 SP1 - FileHippo.com (or you might install their latest version at Download .NET Framework Version 4.5 - FileHippo.com).

                  P.S.

I'll be there when I have a connection... most probably during the night (from 10pm-11pm to 4am-6am EST) but will possibly stick there Today until 12pm-1pm.

If ya'll will pardon me for a moment while I freak out, and lose it for awhile.

I'm scared as Hell about this. I'm surprised I wasn't laughed out of the park to begin with. I've misbehaved and been an argumentative jackass all over the forums. Just listening to Mom going through every single post I wrote makes me cringe. (Incidentally Mom, thank you for reminding me about the paper Quake Figureines. I'll upload the templates I have later today,)

It should be pretty apparent to everyone all of my faults - I've made them very public. I'd like to thank Mindz and all the others that brought me to the point of realizing, "I don't want to be worthless." I don't have the "stuff" to fail that hard anymore. Failing that hard takes far more guts than creation. It's scarier to me, to be nothing more than a failure - who talks shit and does nothing, than to give into all the fear/intimidation for this idea (even if it fails).

I figured if I didn't show how scared I was, I'd get more people interested and they would have more faith in the project. I guess showing some fear, in some circumstances is a good thing.

Yes, that was a pipe-dream. There is a leader. I am. I have a live working prototype for the site, it will be ready tomorrow. For the time being the name is: "OpenIQ". Tomorrow recruiting starts.

                    ----EDIT---
When I mentioned Mindz and others, I'm referring to times I'd deliberately antagonize them - and that brought me to the realization that I was really accomplishing nothing. Moments like that are supposed to wake people up (me). It wasn't intended to be insulting to Mindz or anyone else.

It's becoming apparant to me that if you want something done you've really got to go out and snatch it. Bill Gates, if nothing else is a doer - he get's it done.

Sometimes you have to be a dick to make it happen, a Boss often has to be a dick. That goes part & parcle with being a boss. I'm Bill Gates, but that's not stopping anyone else from being Steve Jobs. If someone has another project (MAC vs PC) go for it.

                              I'm Bill Gates and I'm a PC.

                                Duh.. {punches you in the arm friendly-like}

                                ---

I'm like "just some dude". Notice no one is jumping out of their chair to parse delimiters better than me.

                                ---

I don't want to contribute jack if this is going to turn into 2 identical competing projects. I bet I'm not the only one that feels this way. You guys need to get it together, you are splitting your potential resources in 2 after diminishing them with "segregation".

In other words - you two guys are screwing each other out of this ever happening at all. It seems one of you is a bit more tech savvy than the other (or so we will see). Maybe there could be 2 leads. One each for the two separate projects (game / website).

The fact is neither one of you is Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. Your product isn't something "futuristic" and you don't own IBM. There is already a very small pool of people to help you and now you are gonna cut it in "half"?

Good luck with that working out. In highlight, if 2 people with identical ideas can't even come together "for the greater good", how the hell do you guys expect to lead anything? You aren't even leading yourselves to the greatest possible outcome.

A bit harsh, but it is honest and I mean no ill regard.
