In 3.98 there isn't a way for the user to do it.

Although smoothfont isn't perfect, the text is stretched/mangled with it off.

I'm thinking about changing the scheme a little for 3.99. Really large resolutions have text that is way too small, so I'm thinking about making a new automatic setting and having it be the default. I could also make font smoothing something that can be turned off.

What resolution are using? Just curious.

1680x1050 with vid_consize 3 (hopefully making it 320x200 console resolution).

I'll add a manual way to turn it off in 3.99.

In 3.97, you could set your resolution to 1680x1050 and then type vid_conwidth 320 in the console and manually control smoothfont via gl_smoothfont 1 (ON) or gl_smoothfont 0.

In 3.98, the smoothfont is automatically turned on whenever the characters would require stretching, which looks really bad.

/Yes, with your resolution that would be a 320 x 200 console resolution with 320 width. The smoothfont gets turned on because 1050 / 200 isn't even.

Baker, I've also notice that with my video card and drivers, that when I alt-tab out of glpro398 into windows, my video settings are all messed up. There are multiple images of the screen, and nothing is really legible.

I have a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro using the latest catalyst drivers.

I have a couple of different laptops using Radeon cards, I will see if I can duplicate the problem.

            Let me ask this ...

I don't recall having this problem on either laptop ever and I am going to guess the odds of me reproducing this problem myself are low, so I need additional information ...

            1. Does glpro 3.50 do this?
            2. Does Qrack do this?

I forgot to mention this, but the answer to both of those questions is no
(that was the first thing i checked).

Edit: gonna check other 3.9x versions.
              Edit2: 3.95 does not do it. 3.97 does. don't have 3.96.
Edit3: Ok found out what is causing it. If I make cl_sbar anything greater than 0 and less than 1, it screws up windows when I alt-tab.

Alrighty, I should be able to figure out what's going on with that then.

                Thanks for identifying the problem.

I've also noticed that setting cl_sbar back to 0, won't fix the problem. However, if I set it to 1 and then to 0, then alt-tabbing to windows will work as intended. But going from something like 0.5 to 0, alt-tabbing to windows is still borked.

List of things I want to get done in the near future:

                    1. Fix alt-tab issues when using transparent or quakeworld style HUD, ALT-TAB issues. I know why it's doing this.

                    2. Add "[anti]lag command" support. This is a server-side anti-lag option created by Slot Zero that must be coded into a mod that is sort of like a server-side anti-gib filter (but does a little more than that) that helps people with poor connections (dialup users).

                    3. International keyboard fix

                    4. v_gunkick (but have it off)

                    5. cap gl_triplebuffer to 1 (?)

                    6. maps/demos list.

                    7. The true fix for -ip issue with certain network setups

                    8. Change gl_interpolation_transform to r_interpolation_transform and add to wqpro as an option (defaulted off)? Investigate the blinkage issue.

                    9. Linux version

                    10. Cheat-free Qrack

                    11. Add Rook's extra modifications (grenade bounce fix, admin-mute, sv_defaultmap and ... if it doesn't exist ... sv_identify_client_on_connect).

                    12. Maybe change "anti-wallhack" to a command line parameter and add extra announcement that the feature is activated [because otherwise, how can you tell unless you are cheating ]

                    13. Allow smoothfont to be turned off

                    14. Speed optimization tests.

                    15. Documentation, performance tips (like using -gamma is faster), and identify the short list of small differences from 3.50 (centered crosshair is default, etc.)

                    16. Make certain every cvar saves that should save to config, does. Even weird ones like m_yaw and so forth.

baker, what about adding a q_modified; something that acts like q_version but instead relays information regarding any modified files someone might be using.

Well, would you trust a client telling you it isn't cheating

In the future, I am going to look into the different options for a mixed-cheatfree mode.

But what has a higher priority than that is being able to open up cheat-free for non-ProQuake clients but with iffy stuff disabled (no cl_deadbody filter, gl_r2g, gl_picmip > 3, gl_textureless, etc.) At least starting with Qrack. All the usual stuff applies.

In fact, I want to do that very soon.

I did this once, it's not really a "true" fix... but it worked with everyone who tried.

Yeah, I'd like to see this. Please send it to me.

Actually, if possible, I'd like the source to Brazilian JoeQuake as well. I'd like to examine the changes and maybe even incorporate them all into this, at least as an option.
