  • which OS?
try compatibility mode if its not XP

And yes LH I have added the ability to randomly select a map.
if you type changelevel in the console without a map name then it will pick one for you based on all the maps in /id1 and gamedir

This is such a basic feature that makes playing offline with bots or online with friends so much more random and interesting!

Any idea when the next release will be? I know you said you had to fix some bugs first. There were quite a few crash issues with 201. I still use 195, because the game often crashed when loading a map; especially with Frikbots.

That also reminds me, did you ever create a cvar and/or revert map loading to the previous state (prior to 201)? i.e., when I misspell a mapname, it will just say "couldn't spawn server Maps/xxxx", rather than load start.bsp. I really found it a nuisance to not know I typed a mapname wrong until I found myself running around start.bsp. I much prefer the old method of obtaining a simple error message. Perhaps a cvar could switch the behavior?

      • YA, it will drop with an error, cant remember the conditions atm, but actually if its not running a dedicated server then theres no harm. This loading of start map was because of sv_defaultmap cvar which fixes the problem of servers hanging if a map isnt found. Yet, who really uses Qrack as a server??!
but even more so, if you did mistype it, IT should show u a list of maps that are close to that spelling, like are u sure u wanted to go to map FM3 not DM3?

          Ok, cool.

Is your current build of Qrack stable at all? I'd love to get my hands on it to see the the changelevel feature.

            give this a try...

I was working on adding shadow mapping and shader support, but this just makes a release that much later, i should clean up any loose ends, document the changes, and just release now as its almost 2 years since last release! Ack!

edit: the only problem with changelevel is sometimes it loads a map that doesnt have an info_player_start then host_error's to console. That's a map problem not Qrack, but could be addressed in the future.

            • This version seems much more stable than the last build you uploaded. I haven't played with it too much yet though. Did you add some sort of new bump-mapping option? Everything looks more grainy than before. I'm not sure I like it (haven't decided yet). How to I turn it on and off?

The changelevel command is awesome! Works like a charm.

Edit: Hmmm... It appears that the grainy look is a bug of some sort. It randomly comes and goes while I'm playing. This didn't happen with any previous version of Qrack!

Lol. Well, other than that, this is a very stable build as far as I have seen. I tried loading and playing all the usual problem maps with Frikbots, and I haven't experienced any crashes so far. The only thing I wish to see changed still is a way to turn off sv_defaultmap.

                    • That works - but of course, it now says, "couldn't spawn server, missing map maps\.bsp". I guess it really doesn't matter whether or not it repeats back what you typed, as long as it doesn't load a map when you type something wrong. It gets the job done.

                            • Hmm, I'm still getting packet overflows with this build in Frikbot editing mode. This issue started around build 1.95 I believe... This time, I was adding waypoints for ph8dm2, and I started getting packet overflows when there were bots. Any idea what is causing this, R00k? It doesn't happen in 1.90.

If you need help troubleshooting, I can zip my game folder with my configs and ph8dm2.

                              • Rook,
I'm using the latest build, and I love it! However, the only problem I have is my fps. The previous builds (including 2.0) reported accurate solid 300 fps when I set cl_maxfps 300. Now, it is solid 250. When I raise it up to cl_maxfps 500, it jumps around 350-420. When I set cl_maxfps 200, my fps goes to 160. Is there a reason why it is off around 50 fps from the max settings?
