your HD version of the ogre definitely looks interesting s13n1

but do you mebbe have a higher resolution pic?
the pic is quite small and you cant really make out any details

    .

having enemies rigged with a skeleton so more detailed animations and stuff like enemies always looking at you is possible has been a dream for me for a long time.
having skeletal animations, enemies always looking at you, and ragdoll physics in quake would be absolutely awesome

are you curious about what all there is out there in terms of HD content for quake?

        Hello

Just to let you know that capnbubs is also currently working on an ogre (in case you didn’t know):

It is great to see that you are also 'give birth' to an ogre. Its always good to have talented people working on Quake content.
        Also for educational purpose.

Anyhow, Thank you for your time and effort.
Looking forward to see your progress and tracking this thread.
        Really great job.

        Best wishes.

2.5 hours work... 2.5 hours !? Mind blown. You're fast and it looks excellent.

You could try to fit in these boar fangs on his face, such animal features make him unique among other fantasy ogres, or supermutants.

I beg you, do at least Fiend and Shambler too. Your ultimate goal are dinosaurs, so learning experience from animal like monsters should be more valuable, than Q2 cyborgs.
Btw, according to American McGee Shambler has fur. I always imagined Shambler and Fiend as some primal animals with short coat hair like on a bull.
With nice and faithful Scraag and Vore by ObiWan we would have at least all iconic, unique Quake monsters covered as faithful HD remakes.
Quake HD: Embrace the decline and have some guilty pleasure with it, or join a club for monocled gentlemen at quaddicted and play Quake the way it's meant to be played.

            Grrrrrrrrrrrrr, Gimme pie!

IDK, lol, that's just what came to my mind when I saw the pic. I believe "interesting" was used to describe this (so far). Imma stick with that.

It really takes no time to get to that level of detail, its very easy. But you can lose hours in very small details, feeling as if your getting nothing done.

I don't want him to look overly muscular, I want him to appear strong. He is a strong creature, but not ripped with bulging muscles.

I've added a bit of fat around his head. On the back of his neck and around the chin and jaw. I've also given him some little chubby almost cauliflowered ears.

I've bulked up the shoulders and given him a bad slouching/hulking posture. The kind of posture and build you would expect from a creature that drags a heavy weight all day.

I have to remind myself, that he is an ogre and probably has a different bone structure and muscles. So you can stray from realism a bit.

The tusks are a bit of a tough one for me.

It's details like that, that a lot of people will have mixed feelings over, because we all interpret details differently.

I was really surprised when i seen the other model, because I've actually never noticed them and i've played a shitload of quake. I've always just thought it was highlights on the edges of the mouth, a strange colour due to limited palette. I've always just seen the Ogre with a big manic expression and a mouth full of teeth. And of course a chainsaw and grenades.

I'm just making him based on how ive always known him.

I did try adding the tusks, but they looked a bit strange. I'm just not used to them i suppose. This is not meant to be a 100% accurate remodeling anyway, so im not too fussed about not having tusks. Its like if i made a shambler, i wouldn't make it with fur or hair.

              Each to their own.

                Haha!

Its been really hard sculpting the face.

One minute i like it, then the next i think he looks like some fat dude trying to fart. Then i think he looks mean, then i think he looks like he's laughing.

Its gonna take a while but eventually he will look "right".

looks great, i really like your ogre s13n1!
like how he looks like a char which is all brawn and no brains.
and the big head with pretty much no neck is super, works perfectly for a char like this

feet look neat too, i like em. the elephant-ish look of them works out great for this char
they remind me a bit of the feet andrew joll gave his HD shambler

Excellent work! Now I want to see him in game. You are very talented at this my friend!!

I know there are tutorials on youtube and other places, but would love to see the process you do to make such details so quickly!

I like that you threw in "wet". Because, of course it would be wet. That Ogre is bound to be sweaty and slimey under that outfit :-)

It would make a damn good alternative idle animation. Very random so it doesn't occur too often. But it would be hilarious to catch sight of an Ogre rip one.

seven has added some random animations to a couple of the enemies, which use animations which are inside the models but were unused.

the grunt randomly reloads, the knight will randomly kneel for a moment, and the ogre will randomly pull the cord of chainsaw to re-start it

im sure he could add that if you would make animations for it
would be the most funny thing ever, especially if you'd make him look around first to check if theres nobody around and then clench his teeth and fists
to squeeze out a big wet fart, and mebbe even make him laugh stupidly at himself afterwards or such
                          .

Why does it have to be so serious. Maybe some comedy is just what Quake needs. There is at least 2 ogre remakes already. Tea Monsters Ogre is very good and covers the high poly genre, Capnbubs version is also very good and covers the authentic genre. There is also some ogre retextures out there. So, in a sense, you're kinda spinning your wheels on this model anyway. At this point we could make a whole game of just Ogres.

So I say, make him smile and fart. Give him some pie. If you need help with the QC for your model I could write it for you in my sleep. All I need is the finished model so I know frame counts.

MUCH better. Especially the rhinoceros feet. I'd drop his shoulders a bit. He looks too rigid

                                Uh oh..

I was actually not liking the feet so i changed them..

                                Still tweaking that face..

Might bring the lower cheek in a little, from this angle, his right cheek can be seen sticking out a little and bringing it in might make him look a bit more aggressive.

I think he's starting to look more angry and aggressive rather than comical anyway. Now he's dropping ANGRY wet farts.

Added basic detail to hands. Defined fingers and thumb. Will have to change to 3 fingers + thumb rather than 4 fingers + thumb. Seems more Ogre that way.

Ears are fatter, smaller and more ogre-ish.
