I see a lot of valid points in this thread. However, I don't have time to reply to everything right now.

Although, I did, about 1-2 months ago, talk to everybody that was originally involved in the dredd server, including Phenom, Baker, Bam, R00k. For some reason, which doesn't matter, dredd.quakeone.com was morphed back into the normal shit CA servers, when this was NEVER the intention of dredd.

You all agreed to help me get it back up, but nobody has followed through, why? A lot of us WANT DREDD BACK, auto-rotating maps, custom maps.

Get on the ball. Stop being all talk

Last time I checked Dredd was on its old map rotation (2 days ago) and should be setup like it use to be in the good days!

I've been putting in some work over the past 2 weeks and got it to a sustainable condition.

          Ain't that the truth.

Remember -- and I learned this from a movie --- he who controls the Quake, controls the Universe (or maybe it was "spice") -- or maybe it was "The Land and the Quake are one".

Whatever the answer, Quake is a hundred times better than any other shit game ever made and that includes Quake 3 which pales in comparison to the one true Quake.

/My quota of frivolous free time for the day has expired -- and so goes life.

Quake Isnt dead. It's just over there---> sleeping....

Define Quake 1st. Then, redefine your entent. Create a new mod/gameplay for the better of....

Look at WarSow is that a "better" Quake2??

Original "Quake" is singleplayer, otherwise for netquake its running around FFA style...

I agree though, it would be fun to take this ship out of the seas and into the stars...

I don't know about you guys but I'd kill for a client side mute option so I could mute specific people's subnet and never hear their bullshit and trash talk in game anymore.

I don't really understand the purpose of this post.

You're basically stating it's ok for us to stay stagnant because its worked so far?

Slight changes to an old game could make it more enjoyable, and bring back some people.

I was trying to get you to put down that cardboard sign 'will QUAKE for food', and replace it with a metal sign saying "ClanRing: it's what's for breakfast"

To attract more players, either way, there needs to be

A.> Publicity, advertisement, in your face exposure.
B.> Availability and Ease of installation.
C.> Attractive gameplay with an addictive reward system.
players need to feel like they are doing better and better every minute, yet also feel like its a learned skill they are developing so they can brag about their achievements.
D.> Competitive Structure. Whether this is simple personal player stats, or full blown tournaments.

To achieve this and other points mentioned a major overhaul of the client/server engine would be required. Yet, look at DarkPlaces and FTE. Perfect candidates for such a challenge. But then u alienate the diehard core group of 'proquakers'. If I made CAx FTE compitible and required EVERYone to switch to Qrack or FTE you think everyone would? And if that's the case then why stop at FTE/DP and not take it to Quake4?

So is this the State of Quake or the State of "most popular online mods based on the Quake engine" ?

I know this sounds like im being negative, but it's easier for me to think, "How can we make DM/CTF/CA better?" vs "What makes QUAKE suck"...

To my knowledge that has always been the case. Even though NQ had the more skilled players.

I'm not sure why, but there are more Doom II players than Quake players at just about any given time. The Doom II clients also seem to be in active development.

Why the heck is it that at just about any time I can join a Doom II CTF game, yet it's extremely rare for me to find people playing Quake CTF. That doesn't make any sense to me.

The Quakeworld community has it's act together and they know what they are about (competitive play, settings, configuration, the bunny).

The problem NQ has is the lack of diversity and poor organization.

If I saw 10 players playing at Dredd, I'd drop everything and start playing. I don't feel that way about DM3.

With some more sophisticated clients (as in ease of use), a truly free and legal version and some sort of strategy to deter the people that cause problems or are intolerant of anything different ... these go away.

And eventually this is going to happen.

I suppose it already has happened with NEXUIZ. A freely quake-powered game, yet does anyone here play it? I'm not 100% sure but i would have to imagine that Nexuiz possibly could load DM3, maybe if that were the case everyone would play it then

This community to evolve to have something like Nexuiz except that it gets 400 fps out of the box.

I like the idea behind Nexuiz and am supportive of the Nexuiz community and I have the utmost respect for what they have done, but I can't get a reasonable FPS with it (20-40 FPS even with all lowest settings) nor does it run on a broad enough set of computers/video cards to achieve the kind of potential it could have reached.

But you have to give them enormous credit for doing it.
