.:: Clan Arena -X- ::. <- mod files
I am 99% positive that CAx/Dallas both use ProQuake451 as the server exe's.
-game cax -condebug -ip 1.1.1.1 -port 26000 +hostname "Ban_Testing" +map dm3
you'll modify the ban.cfg file inside the CAx folder ,if it doesnt exist here's an example of what belongs in it

identify 1, will identify my IP (which will show you a list of my names ive used in your presences)

holy crap! lol {deep relaxing breath of overwhelmedness}
{factually} OK, I get it. Load it up with a bunch of crap on the command line and use the console to identify players. I don't need to do any of that yet, cause you just gave me a chunk of the puzzle on how all of this works.
What writes/reads ban.cfg? progs.dat? If so, I need the source. This doesn't make sense to me that a progs is writing to/reading a cfg file, but i don't see anything in this folder other than .cfg files and a progs.dat. Catools is for maps. Excuse my newbness but I know (would hope) that you aren't relying on the client to make decisions. All someone would need to do is modify their client not to care.
What is compiling IPlog.dat? QCCX? What is telling QCCX to do that? The client?
If it's the client doing all the work then no wonder Kimp railroads this shit. All the decisions are technically made by the user.Last edited by MadGypsy; 08-13-2012, 10:47 AM.

nothing, ban.cfg is manually edited. Temporary bans (admin logins into console, then uses admin-ban or crban function,depending on where your banning kimp) if I recall r00k correctly at the exe level. Or maybe I have it backwards. 100% of my knowledge stems from chats with r00k in these regaurds.
iplog.dat is generated on its own by the client. when you add -iplog to command line , the client looks for the file if it doesn't exist,it generates one. all quake clients have this feature, although I dont know if its Id created or JPG/ProQuake feature. Over the years I've just become accustom to using it,and don't even remember when I startedWant to get into playing Quake again? Click here for the Multiplayer-Startup kit! laissez bon temps rouler!

ok what reads ban.cfg? The client? meaning, like I said, all someone has to do is create a client that doesn't give a crap about it. Alternatively they could theoretically create a client that writes to it as well. Unless of course the file had permissions set to read only, but that still wouldn't stop them from making a client to ignore it.Last edited by MadGypsy; 08-13-2012, 11:03 AM.

I need more time and info on what exactly happens when a client connects. It seems like there is an entire layer missing here. The server should make all the decisions. I'll tell you the layer that is missing too. A static username that is not determined by the client. Just like this forum. That is you ultimate crutch all information resides on the clients side. How do you ban "guest", which is essentially what everyone is on a Quake server.Last edited by MadGypsy; 08-13-2012, 11:22 AM.

If the answer to those is no, then I can also guess who "guest" is (below). I'm sure he's laughing it up. Although I really don't see the point, I don't even know this dude, I suck at Quake and there is nothing to gain from this. It's just randomly malicious.

Ok, Interesting enough i found this while on the server typing ' banlist ' in console while admin'D up. I am unaware of how this got there. I re-checked all my server ban.cfg's and i don't see this IP address banned anywhere. So what i have done was removed the ban by typing ' removeban ' and poof it was gone. Now it say's my banlist is clear. OMI if this is your IP maybe kimp hacked your shit because MINDZ ban's kimp every time he comes on LOL. anyway as for you Micheal nothing showed up in the log's stating you were banned etc.. Anyway, any further issues let me know.

P.S. rev i did not take your advise and unban anyone for any reason, so keep the nut high and tight.

I only hammer ip strings 71.185.x.x , and I always look twice before banning. Rare instances when a huge game is going and kimp shows up, when the console is scrolling due to the match going on,I might misread a playerslot. It's very rare.
I don't even ban kimp IP's anymore at server level because at the present time there is no need for it he's getting by that fn ban.cfg. Really would like ban.cfg to be cross referenced against players connected inbetween rounds, see's matching IP ; KICK/BAN. Even if the process becomes Wash/Rinse/Repeat, atleast "de-Kimping" would take on an automated process. Every round played at CAx/Dallas would become an auto-admin'd kick/ban for offending matching ip strings that are in the ban.cfgWant to get into playing Quake again?
