Conc Jumping :

Welcome to Killjoy's "no BS" concing guide. This will teach you the basics of the many different concjumps that are out there.
I know that there are a lot of conc jump guides out there, but if you are like me you dont want to have to sift through pages of writing to learn a jump this guide will suite you. No long paragraphs of writing, just point by point instructions.
If you are having problems performing any of these jumps visit our forums. There's always someone ready to help you out.

I'm going to start off by answering a few simple questions :

1. What is conc jumping?
Conc jumping is a shortened term which refers to the use of concussion grenades to launch the jumping player into the air.

2. What are concussion grenades?
Concussion grenades are the secondary grenades of the medic and scout classes. They are small green looking boxes which are used to concuss players. (although they are more often used for conc jumps).

3.Who can perform conc jumps?
Only medics and scouts can perform conc jumps.

4.Why would I want to conc jump?
Conc jumps allow you (the player) to reach areas that you would not usually be able to reach, as well as increasing the speed at which you move around the map.

5.What kind of conc jumps are there?
There are many different styles and types of conc jumps in TFC, the most common ones (which I will be focussing on in this guide) are :

Index of Jumps:
Basic Conc Jumps Water Conc Jump Hand Held Conc Jump
Backwards Conc Jumps Double Conc Jump Review

::Click on a jump in the above index to go directly to that jump's instructions::

All these jumps are used in different circumstances, and vary in difficulty, but are a great asset in your game.

Basic Conc Jumps:

A good place to pracitce the basic conc jump is on 2fort. Go to the bridge which separates the 2 bases. This is where we will be conc jumping from.

Here are the basic steps of this jump :

  1. Make sure you have room infront of you for your conc to land after you throw it.
  2. Press your secondary grenade key (default : g).
  3. Release your secondary grenade key and begin running toward your conc. (which is now on the floor infront of you)
  4. As your conc is about to go off (time it using the "beeping" sound it makes) jump while still pressing forward.

You will be launched into the air in the direction that you were running. This is greatly affected by the angle at which you were to the conc as it went off

Backwards Conc Jumps:

This is not used nearly as often as most other conc jumps but can be very usefull when you dont have time to align your conc (eg : during mid battle).

Here are the basic steps of this jump:

  1. Press and hold your secondary grenade key
  2. Begin running backwards (while shooting if there are enemies following you)
  3. Wait for +-2 seconds with grenade primed
  4. Release the grenade and jump (while still pressing backwards
  5. Turn 180 degrees so that you are facing the direction you are going (while in air)

This jump comes in handy when you are retreating out of the enemy's base with their flag (and while having the enemy defenders chasing after you). It provides a sudden and usually unexpected boost which often results in you leaving their base alive.

Water Conc Jumps:

Water conc jumps are commonly used on maps such as 2fort and well (maps where there is water in strategic places. These jumps will launch you from the water, out into the air. (eg: From the water between the 2 bases in 2fort onto the battlements). There are 2 different water conc jumps : Shallow water, and Deep water .

Here are the basic steps of this jump:

Shallow Water:

  1. Make sure there are no objects above you outside of the water (eg, the bridge on 2fort) as you need a clear path out of the water.
  2. Press your secondary grenade key.
  3. Drop your conc onto the floor of the water
  4. Align yourself just infront of your conc (so that it is a little behind you)
  5. Swim upwards (as if you were swimming to the surface for air) (*dont press jump to get to the surface)
  6. As your conc goes off you will be launched out of the water.

    Deep Water.

Perform the same basics as the above jump but instead of pressing and releasing your secondary grenade press and hold it untill just before it goes off, then release it and perform the rest of the jump.

As with all conc jumps your angle in relation to the conc will affect the outcome of your jump. The only way to get this right is to practice.

Double Conc Jumps:

This is possibly the most difficult, yet practicle conc jump out there (triple concs are possible, but dont serve much use on any maps other than the concmaps). This jump is usefull for situations where you need to cover great distances in the air (duh). An example of a double conc is from battlement to battlements on 2fort, or Mulch_trench.

Here are the basic steps of this jump:

  1. Press and Release your secondary grenade key
  2. Press and hold your secondary grenade key (*This has to be done straight after you've thrown your first conc)
  3. Perform a basic conc jump off your first conc (which is on the ground) . While still holding your second conc.
  4. While travelling in the air release your second conc just before it goes off.
  5. Your second conc will launch you further forward, allowing you to cover greater distances.

Timing in this jump will be the decider as to weather you impress everyone with your "1337" concing skills, or if you leave everyone rolling on the floor laughing. I cannot realy explain the timing on this jump so you will have to practice it (over, and over and over) to get it right.

Hand Held Conc Jumps:

Definately the most difficult conc jump to perform or master. Commonly referred to as HH jumping (hand held {duh}) this jump is perfect for situations where you have little room to drop a conc on the floor. HH concs work on the same principle as basic conc jumps, only the conc never leaves your grip.

Here are the basic steps of the jump:

  1. Press and hold your secondary grenade key
  2. Run in the direction that you hope to HH to
  3. Jump as your conc goes off
  4. Hopefully pull off the jump

This jump isextremely difficult to time (especially during internet games due to lag). I recommend you fire up a LAN game to pactice this particular jump as the low ping will make it easier to learn.Note : When performing a HH conc you will be launched in the direction that you jumped in.

Review:

Any half decent player can perform a conc jump. But with practice you can perform jumps which will greatly increase your flag capping speeds, as well as your mobility. If you want to work on your concing skills I recommed you download one of the many concmaps out there (concmap_csi, concmap2, concmap5 etc..) These maps can be found at JMC's Mapzone.

Demos of these jumps are available upon request. To request a demo, register at our forums and post your request. We also have a variaty of other demos available.
