Weapon Jumps :

There are a couple of different ways to use weapons to assist you in jumps in TFC. Many veteren players use these jumps regularily, often without even thinking. These jumps allow you to get to places that you wouldn't normally reach and give you an advantage over others. There are quite a few different weapon jumps but I will be focussing on the more commonly used ones.

I recommend these jumps to anyone who knows the basics of the game, these jumps require you to perform tasks that might be to difficult for newer players. If there is a jump that you want to learn that isn't here post your request at my forum (link to the left), and I will help you out.

Concussion Grenade Jumps:

Who can do it? Medic, Scout
Description: Concussion Grenade Jumps (conc jumps) are a commonly seen thing on public and private servers. Concussion grenades produce a violent 'force' when they explode which can be used to launch yourself into the air.
Instructions:

Here's how you perform a simple conc jump:

  • Choose either Medic or Scout (as they are the only classes with conc grenades)
  • Your concussion grenade is your secondary grenade.
  • Throw a conc grenade onto the floor.
  • Wait untill it is just about to go off.
  • As it goes off jump, you will be launched into the air.

Notes: The angle to the conc and the distance both have affects on how your jump turns out.

Tip: The higher you are from your conc the bigger the jump will be. (jumping off an object which is raised a little higher than the conc which you threw on the floor)

Verticle Grenade Jump:

Who can do it? Soldier, Medic, Demoman
Description: This grenade jump (as the name describes) launches you straight up into the air. It is usefull for times when you need to get up somewhere high but dont have access . eg: The enemy elevatort on 2fort. It is an easy jump to perform but requires you to stand still, so it isn't easy to perform while under attack.
Instructions:

For this tutorial I am going to use the elevator shaft on the map 2fort as an example.

  • Make sure you have full health and armour before performing this jump.
  • Find the object you'd like to jump to (The enemy elevator shaft on 2fort)
  • Walk right up to the wall of the elevator (it will say 'This elevator won't work for your team" , this is ok because we won't be needing it)
  • Prime your primary grenade (click and hold your grenade button) and stand dead still (still up against the wall).
  • Your grenade will explode while you are holding it, this will launch you straight up into the air (vertically).
  • You will reach the top of the elevator shaft but must press forward while going up, this will make you land on the ledge at the top of the shaft.
Notes: If you press any directional key or jump while your grenade goes off your jump will be ruined, this is why I dont recommend performing this jump while enemies are around. When you have been launched up into the air, crouch as you press forward.

Distance Grenade Jump:

Who can do it? Soldier, Medic
Description: This is the hardest of all grenade jumps to get right. It requires perfect timing for it to work and is costly if you mess up. I use this jump if I need to jump over an object a long distance away as this jump launches you a long, long way if done right.
Instructions:

For this tutorial I am going to use the courtyard of the map well as an example.

  • Go to the yard just out of your base in Well (straight outside the main entrance to your base).
  • Stop as soon as you've gone through the door.
  • Face the enemy base, you will notice the medium between the two bases, this is what we are trying to get over.
  • Make sure you have full health and armour.
  • Prime your primary grenade (click and hold your grenade button).
  • Begin running forward on the second 'beep' of the grenade.
  • Just before your grenade goes off jump, (this is where your timing will affect your jump).
  • You will be blasted forward and upward and will land in the enemy courtyard. (if your timing was right).
Notes: Your timing must be perfect for this jump to work properly. The only way you will get this right is to practice as different timing produces different results (depending on your timing you may end up getting blasted straight forward or straight up.)

Rocket / Grenade Jump Combination:

Who can do it? Soldier
Description: This jump is relatively difficult to learn, but will give you a major advantage over your competition (as well as impress anyone who sees you doing it). As the rocket launcher is needed to accomplish this jump, only a soldier may perform it.
Instructions:

I am going to use the lower flag area of the map 'Well' as an example.

  • Go to the bridge in your base that leads from the main part of the base over to the capture point and elevators (which leads to your flag).
  • If you look up you will see the ledge which the elevators lead up to, this is where we are going to grenade/rocketjump to.
  • Stand on the bridge facing your flag (make sure you are standing on the end that is farthest from the flag, because you will need some distance to travel in the air)
  • Prime your primary grenade (click and hold your grenade button).
  • Start moving forward towards the flag while facing the ground (as if you were performing a rocket jump)
  • On about the 3rd 'beep' of your grenade perform a rocketjump.
  • While in the air release your grenade just before it explodes. This will launch you even higher into the air.

Notes: You must release your grenade a few milliseconds before it explodes to get the most out of your jump. This is pretty hard to explain so I advise you to take a look at the demo of me grenade/rocket jumping to try understand it.

Rocket Jumps:

Jump Type: Rocket Jump
Who can do it? Soldier
Description:

Rocket jumping is an easy way for soldiers to get to places that other classes cant. Rocket jumping is not a difficult skill but is used often by most novice to expert soldiers.

Instructions:

Here's the basics of rocket jumping:

  • Make sure you have plenty of health and armour.
  • Find the ledge or object you want to rocket jump up onto.
  • Reload your rocket launcher to make sure you dont run out of ammo once you've finished your rocket jump.
  • Run towards the object while looking down (facing the ground)
  • Just before you reach the object jump and fire a rocket into the ground (in that order). This will launch you into the air.
  • Keep control of yourself in the air and aim for a spot on the object/platform.

Notes: When jumping and firing your rocket launcher you must make sure you fire quite quickly after you've jumped.

A soldier with full health can perform a few consecutive rocket jumps before running out of health and armour.
