  • Oh, OK, I didn't know Wicked used stuff from the mission packs as well. I currently play it in QuakeSpasm because my DP is a mess that I need to sort out and I have only installed base QRP in QS, not their MP packs. Thanks for the tip.

And yeah, I already know about your Drake content thread, thanks, I was thinking about replacing the very low-res magic wand with yours.

    • aye tronyn also uses textures from the mission-packs a lot, so you will need the texture-packs for those by QRP

      .

the easiest solution is to just have a copy of all 3 texture-packs by QRP present in your ID1 folder

that way you will never get any missing textures in maps that use textures from the mission-packs
as regardless of what folder the maps are in, any engine will ALWAYS load everything found in the ID1 folder as well

      .

and fun fact on that.... the ruby wand from drake was actually the very first model i ever made for quake
i most of all didnt like how low-poly the ruby wand looked and i choose to start with it cuz of its simplicity

none of my HD models will work in any other engines other then darkplaces though, all of them are MD3 models

      • Arrhhh! OK, so I guess I'll have to fix my DP before I use your models. BTW, do you know if there's a similar thread for Quoth content? Low-poly items with low-res textures really stick out like a sore thumb in Arcane Dimensions.

Edit: Also, what would be needed to convert your models for use outside DP?

        • aye, ive also made HD models and textures for quoth:
          http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-mod...tml#post146919

its not as extensive though as my stuff for drake

btw you can find a lot of HD skins for the hexen2 enemies used in arcane dimensions, drake & quoth
(like the golem, imps, scorpions, spiders, skull-mage) in jeank's HD texture-pack for hexen2: http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-tal...tml#post162285

          .

also, in regards to converting my models for use in other engines:

thats simply not possible, for several reasons:
1- a lot of my models have waaaaay to much detail to be usable in other engines.
. . before they could be converted to mdl they would first need to have their polycount lowered a looot
2- several of my models have small details, which would get completely destroyed with conversion to mdl, because of the vertex-inaccuracy of mdl
3- a lot of my models use multiple textures on the models for additional detail,
. . and mdl does not support models with multiple textures
4- several of my models also have parts which are semi-transparent, like the amulet's gem and the glass parts of the flasks.
. . mdl does not support this because mdl does not support multiple models exported as a single mdl
          .

Wow, thanks for those new links, you're as awesome as ever!

But wait... you're a DP-exclusive quaker, aren't you? And you CAN run Quoth in DP?! I thought it was one of those mods that are problematic in DP (doesn't work in mine), in fact QS is the recommended engine for running Quoth.

Edit: I've just visited your Quoth page. I didn't remember but I did visit it a few months ago. Sometimes it's hard to keep track on this site as I haven't found any checkbox to subscribe to posts - am I missing something? I did notice a trackback thing, is that it?

            • yes i pretty much use darkplaces exclusively for all my quake-ing needs
except when a mod/map requires a very specific engine cuz of QC or map-format reasons,
or for the few rare mods that simply dont work in darkplaces i do use other engines.

and yeah i can run quoth just fine in darkplaces,

Cool, thanks for the heads-up. Usually on message boards and blogs there's a simple checkbox next to the text editor. I searched for it on the whole page but failed to look in there. This site sure could benefit from some user-friendly improvements, but I also could benefit from paying closer attention.

I'll try Quoth again in a cleaner DP, I hope I'll manage to get it running. Some of my fave maps require Quoth and it bugs me that I can't play them in their full eye-candy glory.

                    • latest in the sense of being the recommended bug-free build to use nowadays, yes

and you can easily see which darkplaces build you have, just start darkplaces and open up console
darkplaces will show which build you are running at far bottom-right of the console

                      .

i would recommend making an additional clean darkplaces setup for mods which does NOT have any replacement models present in the ID1 folder which can cause conflicts,
like monster-models which can cause issues cuz of not supporting any additional skins or animations that the monsters from mods have

and there's no need to completely wipe your darkplaces setup,
just make an additional brand-new darkplaces setup in a new location

                      .

i myself have... 5 darkplaces setups:

                      - one for HD gameplay, which has all the eye-candy installed and has seven's small mod compilation added

-one for online gameplay, which only includes standard HD models and textures but doesnt include framerate-killing stuff like RTlights and water-shaders,
. . to have a balance between gorgeous HD visuals with the entire world and all monsters looking HD but still getting a high framerate

-one setup for use with mods, which doesnt include any HD models in the ID folder at all so as to not cause conflicts with modified models that mods often include

-one setup specially for maps that use the drake and quoth mods, which also doesnt have any monster-models in the ID1 folder and has all the replacement content present only in the folders of the mods

-one setup which includes only debugged and authentic-improved models and which has texture- and lighting-settings set to look exactly like software-quake,
. . for that sexy pixelated retro-look for when i feel nostalgic and want to play quake exactly how it looked like in '96 with only some minor updates to the models
                      .

Actually, I checked and saw that I had downloaded both - the latest from May 2014 and the previous one that you're using.

On an unrelated note, you're probably aware that Map Jam 7's just been released. The theme is base maps so I guess it's gonna be pretty easy to HDify. Looking forward to a HD pack soon!
