It's serious, a lot of people already signed up for the tourney page, and the CTF server has been packed the last 5 days straight with normal hourly games.

While this is true, I wouldn't like having a bunch of CA players join in with no previous CTF experience, if they practice first and learn the maps then it's ok, otherwise the games played will be low quality and more of a 1on1 than a 2v2.

          Tier system

First off, you guys don't mess around. Nice work guys.. I'm jazzed for this!

I hear your point about having 4 tiers, yet we might find it difficult to assign people to their respective tiers don't you think? Would it then be a good idea to have tryouts? We could play a few games with some kind of admin/judge, aiming for all to eventually become ranked.

I've never done this before so some of you may know a better way to go about this.

If this is truely about 'fun' then I am in, but I have this feeling like most Quake games I would be ridiculed for not being as good as everyone else. I don't play Quake anymore mainly due to the attitudes of alot of players, but I still love CTF.

So, if you all need another player and don't mind an old-school CTF'r that's very unpracticed then count me in, but if the the attitudes start flying I'll have to retire again.

This could be a great thing if it's done correctly.

gettogamer, the reason I brought up this idea of the league was for some fun and competition. I wanted anyone who wanted to play ctf to join up. That being said I also don't want people who if they get annoyed over some little incident, are going to quit. Most of the active ctfers these days are quite mellow and nice, there are a few exceptions. We usually play a few games of ctf every night on ctf.clanhdz.com, so stop by and play. I want to try and get an accurate measure of everyones skill level, so we are able to keep teams as evenly matched up as possible. I think this is the key to keeping the league successful and active.

Baker, sorry I didn't address your earlier post. It seems like this is getting serious enough to where I'm almost positive it's a go, so if you'd put it on the front page that would be cool.

I just want to make it very clear, that we do not talk shit in 3wave, the closest anybody gets is me badmouthing Monoxide and Clan Zero And even then, I'm not even cussing, etc. The 3wave Capture The Flag community is very civilized, actually, I'm going to go ahead and say the most civilized group of players on a mod that I can think of. I ask that if you loved CTF, or would like to get involved in this tournament to DO SO.

In response to some of your posts (can't remember who said it), but along the lines of servers... I was thinking of asking Avalanche if he would set me up 1-2 ports that had private addresses, or even a password, so that is an available route for discreet/uninterrupted gameplay. QuakeZone is rarely played at (or at least less than HDZ), so I'm thinking that won't be a problem. And there's a few of us who have access at both servers for such things. I don't feel that the hdz default server should be used for the tournament play - only because I do not, and will not jeopardize the activity that we've built up. We can play these league games on other servers/ports.

P.S. If you would, even if you just want to be an observer, sign in to www.quakeone.com/tourney , click "view tournament" and I setup a little preview to show you how the league would work

Some people have concerns about some changes in the mod over the years, so I wanted to clear some things up or change it before we get started...

I dont want this to become a debate that delays the league, so briefly i'll comment on the changes in question.

1.> Hook will tear off a player if the difference between your speed and the person you have hooked is greater than 640.
(normal runspeed is 320. Max hook pull velocity is 800).

                    Method to my madness:
Max hook velocity - max run speed = 480
Max hook velocity - standing still = 800
average velocity difference = 1280 / 2 = 640... twice the speed of max runspeed

And when it tears off them it hurts them as much as hitting them in the head with an AXE!

2.> Axe damage has been increased from 20points to 24points damage (same as the Shotgun)...

3.> Biosuit can reduce damage caused by a discharge.
WarZone comes to mind as the only map that has a biosuit in 3wave.
Normally in Quake the Biosuit reduces the damage caused by LAVA by 1/5th.
A discharge with FULL ammo causes 3500 points damage to everyone around the water. A discharge of more than 42cells will kill anyone regardless if they have a suit or not.

If everyone is happy we can keep it, if not I can revert it back. Either way, I thought it would be best that everyone knows the behavior to use for their own strategies...

                      On an important note:

There is no anti-wall hack up on either servers.

HDZ does not contain an anti-wallhack, and I would definitely like it too.
For a league such as this it would be costly if someone cheated during the games and as we know from years past there is no code of honor in any game (especially Quake). I saw someone who's listed under the tournament who I dont exactly trust NOT to cheat, as he's been caught before, and been accused multiple times.. so I'm getting a little weary after seeing him sign up.

                            If I type ...

                            "test2 ctf.quakeone.com"
                            "test2 ctf.clanhdz.com"
                            "test2 crctf.clanhdz.com"

in the Quake console all show "sv_cullentities 1" which means players-only anti-wallhack is on.

Unless there is something I don't know.

I was going based on the list of your website. Aince hdz crctf says A with a downward arrow i assumed that means Anti wallhack is not up, I was told those symbolize whether the server carries anti-wallhack.

If you mean those little green arrow things, those are the map download links that you can click to get the maps.
