Med Kit

Believe it or not your med kit can heal team-mates, its amazing that isn’t it. Do you know what is more amazing? The number of medics that forget about this, don’t you will be a big help, even if you don’t see a red cross above someone’s head, still try to heal them if convenient, you never know you might find a spy.

Other uses of the med kid are the curing of infections, hallucinations, drunkenness and being on fire. (Who would have though it from such a little thing!!!) Therfore if say two friendly medic’s conc up to the battlements at the same time it would be helpful to heal each other’s dizzy fits.

If you decided to do a quick run round you defence topping up health remember this is quite an unusual site so people will (quite rightly) think you are a spy. To prevent having your armour striped fire a shotty blast into the sky.

Wow, that is some box of tricks, but wait there is more!!! Yes that’s right the fun and games don’t start and stop with defence you can play havoc on offence, (especially on pubs) any enemy in your way, prime a conc, run up, infect, conc away. This will infect them with a contagious infection, the conc will not only get you away from what ever gun they point at you but makes them dizzy and more likely to bump into a team mate and pass the infection on.

Single Barrel Shotgun

The normal, pathetic single-barrelled shotgun is by far the Medic's worst weapon. While it holds plenty of ammo, the rate of fire and reload speed is good; the weapon just isn't powerful enough to make it worthwhile, no let me rephrase that…the power is pathetic. The double-barrelled shotgun offers almost the same stats but with a huge increase in power, so the single shotgun just isn't worth it in 90% of the situations you will encounter. The ONLY time you can even consider using this weapon is at long range.

Super Shotgun
This is the Medic’s best normal weapon. It rips through armour and quickly takes out flesh, all but the heavy classes will fall quickly to its blast. If you can aim this and throw a grenade right you will be lethal.

If you see an enemy take a few pot shots, it only takes 3 to kill an engineer after all. Remember to reload often, in fact almost every time you have shot RELOAD.

Super Nail Gun
The super nail guns best use if taking out enemy sentry guns, its not very good for fighting other players for 2 reasons,
1) It’s not a hitscan weapon, this means unlike the shottys the nail has to travel to the enemy and so is susceptible to lag and good dodging.
2) You will almost certainly meat a sentry gun on your travels so save your ammo for them.

But if you must fight with it, out of ammo for instance, the fire slightly in front of the enemy. Also if you are in a corridor you can strafe left and right while firing out nails, while effective this eats up nails like a HWG eats burgers in MacDonald’s.

Grenades

Feel the power, these things hurt, it takes 1 direct hit to bring a level 3 sentry to near death. A good shot to the face to an engineer, sniper or scout will take them out and will take off a few of the heavier classes limbs too.

Be aggressive, you have grenades use them, prime them in advance of an area so it explodes when you run into a room and let go. If there is no one there just throw it aside, its not spam it’s 1 grenade and wont make a noticeable difference.

While I have said that be careful, don’t prime one for every corner, just the main areas like the 2fort ramp room for instance.

On a side note, with more and more servers having TK turned on watch where you throw your nades, while it may seem funny to blow your team mates head off it isn’t so don’t.

Concussion Grenades (Conc nades)

These little green boxes of joy are the thing that makes the scout worth playing, with its amazing speed of course, not only do they give you a chance of getting past a good solly or HWG they can get you to almost any part of the map and make you look like superman.

Concussing you opponent, most players learn how to conc jump before they learn how to do this and use it to their advantage, they suffer as a player because of this. It’s simple really throw a conc so it explodes near a heavy opponent and then run by them. While it seems simple very few people seem to have mastered it. For example in the enemy’s ramp room on 2fort a good solly is ruining your teams attack. If you no how you can get past him by priming you conc as you run into the base, run into the ramp room and throw it at the same time, it should explode near him, this will make it hard for him to aim and throw him out of position, when you throw the nade you should keep running, it doesn’t matter if you get hit with the blast as your not shooting anyone, just run up the ramp and away.
Throwing your opponents about, simple really, throw a conc so it goes off about a foot or two away from them and watch them fly. The faster a class the more this will effect them, so you can say bye, bye to that solly, or particularly good engineer but not that fatty, although because they are normally played by people who can’t aim, when they are conced and get the drunk effect they really have no chance of hitting you. (Watch out for MIRV’s though)
Conc Jumps, see late in this guide for these beauties.

General Tips

Remember that you’re a medic. That means healing people. If you hear medic swing round and have a look, if you see some one heal them.

Be aggressive but watch you don’t spam the server out, when you die you get new nades so there is no need to save them, except maybe a conc for the ‘fly’ home.

Seeing as valve wrote it into the game code that you regenerate health if you have 1H and 15A its ok to find a place to hide and wait for full health, although if it’s a small map then you may be better off suicideing an important part of enemy defence.

While you are the second fastest class, and probably the best offensive class, scouts can outpace you any day so give them the flag, follow and distract enemies so they can slip by.

Be a hero, not a llamer, if you are low on health after a battle sacrifice yourself for your team. Throw yourself in front of that incoming rocket or sentry gun. Even if you mess up people will be thankful

You are not meant to death match so let heavy classes in your attack group clear the smaller rooms.
