I don't like the idea of making someone use a closed source client...thats like taking a step backwards. Open clients are always better and I bet this closed client only runs on windows or something.
I don't believe that demo one bit since 99% of it is omi playing and the other 1% doesn't really show anything conclusive about doug.
Baker, maybe you should write up some specs on the proquake network protocol since I was looking for some docs a while back and it seems its not documented at all. I know proquake has made a lot of changes to the network protocol over the original quake and I think it'd be nice to have it documented somewhere for other game developers.
Also, if you're planning on making changes to the network protocol, it might be worthwhile getting input from other developers because there are definitely possibilities for optimizing the protocol to use less bandwidth (quakeworld has already done this). I would suggest writing up a complete spec sheet for your new proposed protocol and let others have a look so they can suggest ways to optimize it, etc.
